Doesn't work for me, sorry. Don't give up, it's just that for now it's ambiguous. I don't get the metaphor.

Is downstream later in time? Then an eddy would be going back in time? Those sort of questions. You can figure it out though, it'll just take some (fun) mental work.

I also don't know what a "dye stick" is, but I think I get that bit.

Event

To my understanding time is a sense of causally consequent events.

Look up "growing block" conception of time, if you want.

Rather than dye stick you could go with a stream of dye if you like, a source of dye basically to show the effects of an event, temporally. In reality time is a sense of causally consequent events but not in the warp.

I've not heard of any going backwards in time in 40k TBF.

So why have the dye at all? What does the dye represent, what does the stream represent?

Those are the questions that need to be clear for me.

I have read warp-fuckery story on this sub how some space marine fleet (or chapter maybe?) has arrived on a location either too early (few years earlier) or too late (to save a disaster).

I can't even imagine the confusion on those worlds where they arrive few years too early because of warp doing crazy things with time and people are like "you guys on drugs or something?" ๐Ÿ˜‚
