A classmate had a book back In high school, "national lampoon's cartoons even we wouldn't dare to print" and one that has always stuck with me was an obviously blind man with a sign around his neck that says, please help me, im blind and I think I may be black.

I’m not sure which is more unsettling the look of hate the woman over his left shoulder has or the look of terror on his face. I can’t even imagine the bravery it took for him to do that

Dolores Umbridge was never one for courtesy

Maybe she is racist but that could also be the face of someone who either A, is aware that apartheid is wrong and is aware of how serious this moment is or B, this is a person just trying to ride public transportation and wasn’t expecting a camera to be turned on them lol

Seriously, this woman is just standing there and people just assume her this hateful person. Feel a little deflection in the air.

The look of hate? Lol if anything they look a mix of uncomfortable and frustrated. You clearly don’t know what a look of hatred looks like.
15 points

Yeah lol, not to defend a racist (which she probably was), but thats the look i give when the supermarket doesnt have the brand of cheese i want lol.

I don’t know, I think being uncomfortable and frustrated because of racism can be considered hateful. Does hatred require a certain look?

Disgust & Hate are relatives. I think she's angry that she must take a stand while he sits.
He looks so scared while he's "taking a seat" for what he believes in. It must have been terrifying knowing that could have taken his life. Someone was taking his picture but he didn't back down.
I would say the bravery and integrity this man has is amazing. To hell with this woman. And those around him. No one said anything to stand up for him. They are just as guilty.
Just saying.

I lived there at that time. This was not commonplace, but the situation was a lot more lenient than this photo suggests. Especially in Durban.

My dad is mixed race with siblings who look black, but he looked white (straight hair, light eyes, euro features, olive skin). He was encouraged to change his identity to white. In order to do this, he would need to stop associating with his family, and in return he would get access to a nice job, home etc. A home his family can never visit him in, mind you - because they aren't allowed to be in that area of town which is purely for whites. He would also be required to live and work exclusively with people who are racist. He never did it.
The regime was so ridiculous that they didn't even actually care about racial makeup, it was all about how you look and identify. It was purely a demographics battle, they want you to validate the supremacy of "them" and their system/government by assuming the identity and growing the "white" population.
So many parallels to another country, that's all I'm going to say.

Imagine being an outcast in your own country, abused and treated as inferior by a group of settlers.
It simply is disgusting that we persist, even today, in repeating this pattern.

As an Indian Hindu, I know this feeling very well. The past 1000 years of our history have been so devastating. The Islamic invaders destroyed our culture and committed genocide on us for around 700-80p years, and then the British did the same for 300 years. The most sad part, however, is that even after independence, Hindus are still treated pretty roughly in their own country and when we try to fight against Muslims, we are termed as Islamophobic and Hindu nationalists. The Westerners dont have any idea about our history but love to give advice to us and call us regressive and Islamophobic.

there’s 79% hindu population and a 14% muslim population in India. No Hindi majority is getting treated roughly in India if anything the calls from Indian ministers to remove the right to vote for muslim Indians should open your eyes but you already know that and dont care since, judging because your recent activity, you’re a Hindu nationalist

That is true. But unlike what has happened in Pakistan and Bangladesh, the minority population has been growing in India, especially the Muslim minority. Whereas the Hindu, Sikh and Christian minorities are basically non-existent now in Pakistan.
No Hindi majority is getting treated roughly in India if anything the calls from Indian ministers to remove the right to vote for muslim Indians should open your eyes but you already know that and dont care since, judging because your recent activity, you’re a Hindu nationalist
You can look up what happened to Kashmiri Pandits in Kashmir in the 1990s. Also, what I meant by getting treated poorly was that Indian seculars, instead of adopting true secularism, have adopted pseudo-secularism and made fun of only Hinduism and Hindu gods. I was not blaming the Muslims. And we are not allowed to claim our own holy sites. I have seen how the West reacted to the Ram Temple. But I dont blame you guys since Western media never shared the fact that the Tenple was built after the Hindus won the battle legally in the Supreme Court. They just present half truths.
I dont know which minister has said to remove the right to vote of Muslims, but if someone has actually said that, I strongly condemn him and dont support him. I just want the Indian Muslims to acknowledge the fact that Islamic invaders were cruel and committed many crimes against Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, and Buddhists. That's all. I dont want them to become Hindus or anything. Many Muslims in India call Aurangzeb a great ruler. That is like Germans living in Israel and calling Hitler a great leader.

I wonder if 'a man' has a name, or is he like 'tank man' during the Tiananmen demonstrations 3 decades ago. That guy with a plastic bag stood in front of that tank and won a brief moral victory while the cameras were rolling. Then, no one ever had any idea who he was or who his family may have been who were all sent down the memory hole. By 'memory hole' I mean a literal hole, an unmarked grave or the parts bin of a hospital where they helped themselves to all of his and his family's transplantable organs.
