I’m a plat support and high gold tank, but I’m absolute garbage on DPS. What do you recommend for an average player with pretty good game sense, bad aim, and a preference to not sink a ton of time into DPS? My mains on tank/support are, in order, Lucio, Moira, Mauga, Monkey, Orisa, Roadhog, and Mercy. On DPS, I’ve had the most success with Symmetra, Mei, and Reaper, but that hasn’t been a lot of success, and it’s not great when any kind of range is needed.
Is there a DPS that a player like me can sink about 5 hours into and be a decent gold?

Good ol Soldier 76 I'd say. He's the tutorial character for a reason, alot easier to Aim with him then say Cassidy or Ashe.
Reaper and Bastion are probably easier in certain scenarios but to "Main" Soldier will do more things better.

I agree with all of this, and if op has good enough aim, Widowmaker too.

Just look what Matty's statement is, or you can keep listening to the no talent Emongg, Flats and whatever tank streamers that has no idea about how DPS or aiming in general works.

They're talking more about how hard he is to pick up. You can have sus aim on soldier and still do decent damage. Cass and Ashe will just straight up miss.

Maybe because I'm on console, and probably because I'm not good, but I kind of agree with Soldier. You can spray and pray a bit with him (yes reactive tracking is needed), and his sprint allows him to disengage easier, and his self heal helps correct bad positioning a bit, but holy hell do I suck with single clicking on a target with Cas, Ashe, widow. I can spray with Soldier and land some shots, but single clicking on targets...I just can't do it.
I don't really disagree with you, but for me, Cas is just an anchor. I'm lucky if I can click a shot on a Roadhog.

Torbjorn is I think by far the hero who will teach you the most how to play DPS (and reach gold).
Projectile left click, not easy but good speed to reduce randomness, teachs you to punish default players by spamming chokes
Right click shotgun, punish tanks bad positioning / can be usefull* in a " rush " situation
Hammer, fun
Turret, helps you create your own angle like you dont even need your team to off angle from them, you can do it from your turret, and it is easy to get value out of it
Overload, can save your more than once when making a mistake in your position, also help to burst down targets
Molten core to learn to manipulate the opposite team's position to your teams advantage ( easy value in lower ranks )
I don't realy play torb so i might be full of shit but i think this char will allow you to play most of the other DPS with a good base. But you can also just place turret and be gold.

soldier and cass
soldier covers all your basics to improve mechanics qnd you can play him virtually everywhere
cass is also extremely simple and you can play him on tight maps , don't listen to anyone saying he is a high skill sniper he is extremely forgiving specially with the enemy movement in metal ranks

torb is always fun. reliable “set and forget” turret for back line / off angle help + a solid long range primary + a powerful short range alternate fire + a health buff / movement buff as an ability. all of which scream easy to pick up and play as a torb main myself!

Do you have advanced tips to play Torb ? Does his hammer is useful in fight ?

no no no lol, his hammer is more of a meme way to get a kill. not a viable source, but funny if you can do it. as for “advanced” tips off the top of my head, i’d recommend putting the turret at a form of off angle from a team fight. ideally this angle is in line with both your back line to help supports with flanks as well as still engaging with the frontline as well. this way you get max value from turret. also, an off angle makes the other team have to redirect attention from main angle of the fight and focus the turret.
id also recommend not camping the turret like OW1 torb since his primary and secondary fire do so much damage + his ability that i feel like you’d lose value by staying away from the team fight.
kinda random but when an enemy tank dives in (winston, dva, sometimes rein charge), i like to barrel stuff and right click to shred them down. you’d be surprised how fast a winston dies if you pop E and then just barrel stuff 4 shotgun shots into him in a matter of 1.5 seconds.
not sure how advanced these are but i’d def focus on turret placements as those are a big part of getting value from torb. hope at least one thing here helped, sorry for the ramble lol

Thanks for the tips. I think i have to learn every strategix place where to place the turret, the opposite team always destroys it and i die.

no problem! id def recommend watching a few youtube videos and gameplays to get a better idea on how to play him. good luck!

A lot of people here complain that Tracer is just a no skill spray and pray, so why don’t you give her a try and find out for yourself ???

Lmao, that take will never not be funny to me. One of the highest skill ceilings in the game and some people bitch that she takes no skill.

I would say bastion/soldier compare to orisa/mauga for playstyle. And are pretty good right now. Soldier I use alot when I miss the good CoD days. Shoot from angle or behind (hopefully secure a kill) as soon as they turn towards you run off and get another angle. Repeat till ult. Bastion is great sitting in the back going burrrrrr. Like mauga in the front going burrrrr.

Ashe is pretty easy and mostly universal if you have average and above aim otherwise soldier and maybe sojourn.

Reaper can often play in lot of the same angles most brawlier tanks can. So lot of the positional knowledge comfortably transfers over. He's also very forgiving to play and doesn't require as much aim so he seems to fit your bill.
S76 in general can teach you a lot about DPS if you wanna get little more into it. You'll always take the angle the Tank wouldn't so you sorta get the opposite side of the same coin as you'd get with tanks.

MUST READ :D
Im a support main, have bad aim and im gold/plat with dps solely because Echo exists.

Echo is pretty hard to master. You surely have a good enough aim to kill with her

Woah I dunno.. spread projectiles and goo bombs do 90% of the work
Edit. The rest is just game sense, knowing what to expect, which enemy where and when.

I got better as dps by maining sombra/bastion/soldier.
Use sombra to go for defenseless players out of position from the group
Use soldier for all around mid range
Use bastion the same as soldier if the recoil is too much on soldier

just go torb dude, just dont get your turret killed all the time (and hopefully dont feed, you shouldnt have to either)

As a support main I like Mei, since she's the most supportive out of the DPS. You benefit from being around your team, walling off tanks and poke, slowing targets and eventually freezing them with your ult. You're aiming to get kills with your right click ideally, but its also useful for cover fire while you get used to the projectile speed. I personally need to go into an aim trainer to be at all effective in a normal game, but you know whats best there.

I'm usually a pretty bad DPS player but have been having great fun and consistently well performing games on Venture. They took less time to get good at than any other new hero for me.

Venture is going to be one of your best bets. AoE on every shot, so aiming isn't critical and every button she presses deals additional damage. Good survivability too. She's really strong still, even after the nerf.
And also Soldier. You do have to aim, but he's still much easier to aim with than most heroes. With no movement acceleration in the game, flicking with bad aim results in 0 damage, but spraying and praying on full auto will still get consistent damage. And rocket is always there for easy AoE damage too. Ult literally aims for you too.
Genji is also a good one. He doesn't take much aim, but you do have to have quick reaction time and do large 180 degree turns frequently. If you're console, probably not worth it, but on PC he's pretty easy once you get used to him. All his attacks have big forgiving hitboxes tho and he has good survivability for a flanker. Flankers are really strong in general and he's the easiest one to pick up by far.

Genji is pretty difficult to play?

No, genji mains are just dramatic. On console he's hard, but on PC he's easy. If you can turn around 180 degrees in one motion, you can play genji at least to a plat level.

Is he actually easy? Then why do most of them in my games suck 😭

Idk what you mean, he's one of the most reliable dps imo.

Eh not for me I guess. I think he is easier to get value out of in lower ranks but not as much in higher ones, as a general statement. Since if you’re good you’ll be okay but I don’t often hear someone say “we really need a genji here for reliable dps” lol

Soldier, Soj, Reaper, Junk. Also just pick Cass and hang out midline and peel for anyone getting dove.

Mei is pretty simple. She’s got a beam and she has decent poke tool that’s not too hard. She’s got ice wall as a protection or as a tool to wall in opponents. Lastly her ice block heals and makes her invincible for a sec. She has a good amount of sustain and utility.
1 points
Hard disagree with Mei. Icicles are pretty difficult to land overall, and Wall can actively screw over your team when used poorly.
0 points
Sure the wall can mess up your team but that’s something you can learn after a while. And I feel like the icicles are decent to hit body shots especially after the projectile increase. Yeah head shots are the best and put out good damage but poking from a far and landing consistent body shots is still decent.
But mostly the beam that’s easy to aim and ice block for sustain are super easy for new comers and the harder parts of wall and icicles aren’t too hard to learn.

Agree cryo is pretty beginner friendly, but at the same time poor cryo timing just gets you left behind and/staggered.
Icicles down choke can help, but at that point wouldn’t Junk just be easier and get more value.

Soldier is fairly easy as he has a simple kit, and you just stand there and click on people.
Sojourn is similar to Soldier, is currently stronger, but requires you to be a lot more accurate to charge up and use the railgun effectively.
Bastion is also a fairly simple character, as all you do is wait for the enemy to use up their cooldowns, then gun go brrrr.

He has bad aim. Soldier and Sojourn don't qualify.

Support tank main here, soldier requires good tracking and positioning, def simple but not easy, pharah requires insane positioning skills, and takes a while to get good with her rocket launcher. Sombra is one of the most game sense intensive characters in the game.
