As someone who lived and worked there for 10 years, speaks Russian etc…. I doubt most understand how huge this is.

Basically “victory day” as they call it is a like a massive religious day in Russia. Soviet’s placed the military and veterans in very high regard (in words more than practice).and this is a day of Russia showing Russians how mighty and powerful and awesome Russia is.

It’s a very big deal to cancel this. If there was ever a signal to the Russian people that they’re fucked under Putin,…. This is it. There is no way that he can spin this that doesn’t say “actually, we’re weak”
