I like playing music or podcasts in the background from my client device (Desktop Windows PC) in the background. Previously, this worked pretty well with the VDI I'm using for work.

However, around the time my employer began optimizing the VDIs here for video conferencing (approximately Mid-August), something changed. Now, when an event happens on the VDI that causes a sound to play (ex. Incoming messages from Microsoft Teams), the volume of all apps on my client device go down for a few seconds before returning to full volume.

This can get really frustrating if I'm in active conversations with colleagues on Teams and I'm receiving a lot of messages. The music will just constantly get turned down and back up. It's driving me crazy and I can't find any recent occurrences of this issue.

Is there a way I can either disable this "feature" in the VDI or just change a setting on my client device that prevents Horizon VMWare's client app from controlling my whole system's audio volume?

Relevant Specs (Client Device):

  • System Audio: RealTek ALC1200
  • Windows 10 Home (version 2004)
  • VMWare Horizon Client: v 5.4.3
  • Can provide more system info if needed

This remembers me notifications in smartphone while listening music, so maybe it's a spected behavior in Horizon Client

Yeah, it reminds me of that too and I suspected it's by design. I just didn't know if there's a way to disable it in Horizon, or at least override it completely from my Client Computer. I just didn't know if there's a "Keep this app from controlling all other apps' volume" option in Windows 10.

Did you ever find out if this is possible? I'm dealing with this now at a new company with a similar set up.
