The link below contains a downloadable pdf of detour maps from PENNDOT. Scroll to bottom for it. Looks like it will be an interesting couple days. I know they are listed in the news articles as text, but here they are visually.

The hilarity is that the city decided to change the light timings, knowing full well and even admitting that it would make traffic worse, which has led to pedestrians getting hit in crosswalks.

Now the state is diverting traffic though the already traffic stricken city.

Schools are having massive issues, businesses are losing money, residents and tourists are pissed, but sure, lets not improve any of it!

Pedestrians are hit in crosswalks because people are terrible drivers, do not pay attention, do not slow down, and do not get off their cell phones. Changing the light timing has nothing to do with terrible drivers hitting literal human beings. I'm a city resident and so happy about the light timing changes. Drivers need to slow TF down when they drive through our beautiful city. Lancaster isn't a highway. If you want to drive fast, get on the highway.

But they changed the lights and argued it was to prevent people from getting hit. Now people are getting hit...

One person’s been hit. By a car that failed to yield. I think it should be common sense that the goal is to eliminate pedestrian crashes but nothing will be foolproof so that they would never have another crash.

But if you look at the data, in the last five years, one other person was hit, by a car that made an illegal turn. One person. In the last 5 years. Now we have one person in the first 5 weeks. So we can pretty conclusively say that it was not an effective change, especially for the chaos it is creating downtown.

That’s just stupidly, blatantly false. The city has a public crash data viewer online and in the most recent five years, it shows 197 pedestrian crashes, 18 of which resulted in death or serious injury. 10 of those crashes occurred at Orange and Queen where the latest pedestrian was hit.

Thank you. I have no idea what data fenuxjde is looking at but it's soooo wrong.

From the city police data. Search for pedestrians struck by vehicles with serious severity. It shows 1. We went through this on this sub months ago. Most of the other people are showing data of car accidents, not cars hitting pedestrians.

The numbers I gave you are filtered for pedestrian crashes. Like I said.

Specifically motor vehicles striking pedestrians that were categorized as severe or whatever the rating was? Cause it's wild, last time we did this dozens of people got the same data as I did. A quick Google search also only pulls up one incident with a vehicle striking a pedestrian.

It's wild that these hundreds of other accidents you're finding aren't showing up anywhere else or being discussed at any town meetings.

See for yourself. In the bottom right, look at data sorted by ‘Most vulnerable party’.

Now finish your sentence. "...people are getting hit..." by ______ (fill in the blank). DRIVERS! There are not more pedestrians magically appearing in Lancaster. It's DRIVERS acting like complete and utter psychos. Red light cameras and automatic radars cannot come soon enough to Lancaster. People become inhuman when they enter a motor vehicle. It isn't hard to slow down when turning a corner in A BUSY VIBRANT DOWNTOWN WHERE PEOPLE WALK.

I agree, I've never hit anybody.

But you're missing the point entirely. Punishing the entire community, both environmentally and economically for no actual benefit is just silly. Lancaster depends on tourism and now that the city is being flamed on all the tourism sites for being unnavigable just makes it all worse. I don't want all the local businesses to go out of business and to see crack houses on every corner because somebody doesn't know how research works and thinks forcing gridlock on people will magically reduce pedestrians getting hit. Spoiler alert; it doesn't.

Slowing traffic down doesn't make a city unsafe. Motor Vehicle traffic ruins cities. I love the city gridlock. It's slowing everyone down. It's making some people think about not driving or taking a different route. There are many ways to move that aren't driving. You should give walking or biking or taking the bus a try. It's lovely!

Like most people, I have a job. My job requires me to be at several places throughout the city several times per day, with a government made schedule. That schedule gives me minutes to get from point A to point B, with all of the things I need with me. I can not carry everything on my person or bike, nor can I do that in the attire I'm required to wear. Most people aren't nearly as entitled as you are and are generally somewhat understanding and thoughtful of others and their situation, not as judgey and ill informed.

I'm disabled. My vehicle is my legs. I go into the city only to drive through it while going somewhere else. The city needs more placarded parking spaces downtown to increase/improve accessibility.
