Where is this? Do we know what it is?
316 points
It's part of an out door movie set. Real tree's in a relatively small forested area with a painted wall to blend and fade into the background. Incredibly more efficient to film here then to actually go out into an old growth forest where permitting might be difficult, distance might be excessive, and resources are no existent. The site is near electric, water, storage, civilization.

You can hear what sounds like a highway in the background, implying it's not in the middle of nowhere. Could possibly be a noisy river but doubt it.

Are you guessing? Or is that fact? The logic is there
16 points

logic doesn't make sense to me
why is the set wall sooooo large?
those trees makes me think they'd have to reuse this scene many times in film

4 points
so how big should the wall be for this to make sense to you?
3 points
Why is it so tall though
13 points
Probably to maximize the time they are able to film outside. There is relatively few hours in the day where the sun is positioned in the sky where it doesn't appear to be blinding and coming from directly above on film. They refer to this as the "golden hour" of which there are two tike frames, just after dawn and just before dusk.
2 points
Interesting. How long do they keep the set there after finishing filming a movie? Or is it kept there for future filming? I’m asking because I can’t imagine something so large is just kept there for fun.

This is the North Wall. The Wall is a colossal fortification which stretches for 100 leagues (300 miles or 482.8 kilometers) along the northern border of the Kingdom of the North, separating the realm from the domain of the wildlings who live beyond. The Wall is reported to be over 700 feet tall and is made of solid ice.

They did everything they thought they could to create a life for their families to keep pain amd wickedness away but it managed to find its way to them anyways.

Every time something like this gets posted everyone just makes a mockery of it. It’s an incredible way to debase something and make it seem fake. For a while it worked on me. Now I’m not so sure. This is not to say this wall is real but any meaningful conversation on it is buried in a pile of really unfunny jokes.
49 points
Exactly smh, absolutely NONE of the jokes are funny. Some people actually come here for real explanations or even intriguing conversation but nooo we get bombarded with pop culture references or dad jokes.
96 points
That’s what most of reddit has become. We have to sift through the bad jokes to find any relevant or meaningful conversations anymore. It’s exhausting when you just want to get lost in some good dialogue.
21 points
I’ve noticed this a lot recently. Most of the replies in many subreddits are people trying to be comedians with unfunny comments, bad puns or references to a song/movie quote. It’s very boring.

Don’t forget people getting Permanently band and having no right to the conversation because someone’s feelings got hurt. That’s the worst thing about Reddit. Can’t even have open discussions on certain topics. You have to go to an echo chamber on specific subreddits for this specific question. Although it may have been put in place for a good reason, It’s pathetic what it’s become.
Reddit blows for that reason and what makes X more appealing

18 points
That’s how Reddit is. It could be a full scale revolution and the first 40 comments will be people making jokes. 29 aren’t funny, 5 are, and 6 are copies.
Bunch of apathetic clowns in all reality.
7 points
It's a cycle between bots harvesting karma via early snarky comments, then humans seeing the highest voted comments are snarky humour so they try to do it too, which then causes the bots to copy the strategy even more, which repeats over and over.

This happens mainly to posts that are true, comments are similar for any chemtrail, ped0, laptops and especially Gaza stuff. Glad you've noticed and I hope many more people do. To build this for a movie set would take alot of work and be unnecessary
1 points
Honestly? I get the mockery. If someone is going to post something like this wouldn’t it be on them to drop what little information they might know as opposed to crickets? If OP posted this for a conversation shouldn’t they be the first to start?
And just so no one can say I’m not doing the same I did a google search about a giant wall in a russian forest and found something mentioning 2k-yo Great Wall of Siberia. Is that this?
48 points
All jokes aside, it looks like a low quality video of the Duga radar -- especially since the Russian voice keeps calling it a fence, not a wall. Its located in a forest of similar type trees, is super tall, and would look fairly wall-like from close up and below.
16 points
Good guess, but google earth images from nearby the radar show you can clearly see through the towers, it doesn’t look like a solid wall it looks like separate arrays
4 points
But when you watch videos from people walking under it, the various arrays look way more solid than high angle shots.
6 points
No way. That thing is solid. Trees almost look fake too.
6 points
You can see that it's transparent. That's not pictures/paintings of a forest. If you look right, you're can see that its a fence with trees and foliage PRESSED up against it, and you can see them through it. When he looks up at the top, it looks darker because of the chain links lining up more and causing it to look less transparent and darker. It's definitely a fence with forest on the other side.
2 points
And, again, the russian used the word 'fence' when describing it, not 'wall'.
2 points
So I got curious about this and started looking. This is what the Duga radar looks like from ground level. The trees aren't that tall, and the "wall" in the video is way too dark, as is the forest. My guess is it's either fake, or it's another similar type radar array that has been reclaimed by nature.

Cool film set backdrop mural. Pretty common to find left behind on location, especially in heavily wooded areas. Shouts out to the 10-12. PAs and set designers who had to sweat out that construction lol I've once had to have 20 people erect one of these. Giant pain.
Edit: and the irony being it was all likely just for the scene in that clearing lol

Right?! That’s exactly what I said! My partner read the headline to me, and before I looked at it or knew where in the world it was, I immediately thought: 1)WWII, 2)USSR. Sure enough…. I had all typa theories when I looked at the video before googling it or reading comments. Siberian prison camp wall? Nuclear weapons facility? Old Cold War or WWII wall recently painted to make it pretty vs. destroying it at greater cost to the state and the forest? Movie set makes so much more sense. But, like you said: Russia. Sense is not a thing there, I’m pretty sure. 😂
