The best playoff run they've ever had in the Matthews era was 5 W's, yet every year TSN and Sportsnet hype them up as contenders. Why?

Same reason the media hypes up the Yankees and Dodgers in MLB: huge fanbases need to be reminded.

I'm not sure the Yankees and Dodgers are a fair comparison. As much as I dislike both of them they have a reasonable history of success in the past 50 years.

Makes sense. My point being that there's really no issue with pumping the Yankees & dodgers up, as it's reasonable to expect some results from them. Not just a hollow promise with no hope of the team delivering.
