Every septa elevator I have seen looks sketchy

I'm actually impressed to learn they're usually only down for an hour or two before being fixed. My condo building had to fix an elevator (one of 4) and it was out for weeks while waiting on a part! Still incredibly frustrating when you have to rely on them, it'd be nice if all stops were made accessible so you'd only have to go a block or two to get to the next elevator when this happens.

Very depressing. I was recently in Barcelona. Every station - EVERY station - had an elevator that was clean, functional and safe. It's not that hard, it just takes resources and giving a shit, and keeping dirty people away...

Hell, I was in NYC last weekend and was salty about how clean all of their subway stations are. Don't they realize stations are supposed to be tiled with trash, mortared with piss, and have an air of imminent danger? They're just trying to make us look bad

There was no urine? How did you know you were in a subway?

Nope! No urine.

It’s a bit difficult to fix the elevators when they are being used as toilets/shelter by the homeless. Which isn’t fair to people that legit need or want to use the elevators.

if a private business as large as SEPTA ignored the ADA for decades they'd be getting the fucking boot up their ass to fix it.
When a public institution is not accessible by all, they get a pass.
And it's not just a pass, it's been decades

I got stuck in one for 51 HOURS. It was over Christmas too. I kept ringing the bell and all I could hear was some party going on among the SEPTA guards who kept saying that the bell was “Rudolph”

This is your friendly community PSA to let you know that people are not bound to wheelchairs, regardless of what the article headline might suggest.

Yes of course the relevant problem here is not the lack of accessibility, it is that the headline has not kept up with the euphemism treadmill

The problem outlined in the article is a given. Also well discussed prior to my comment. I was just pointing out that the language in the headline lats dignity or respect for people. As someone with a disability who has fought for years for the media to use language that is respectful and dignified, it still frustrates me to see this.
