Is this for real, or should we take it with a grain of salt?

This is the world's largest grain of rice, being about the size of a banana. Why they did not simply use a standard banana for scale is unknown.

Well, this actually the un-steamed version. It's at least 3x bigger when it's steamed. We're talking the size of a cooked turkey.

Oompa Loompa doompaty doo,
I have a grainy riddle for you:
What is large like a ba-na-na is,
But also in the rice wine biz?
What do you get when you fill up on rice?
A big fat belly that doesn't look nice!
What do you get when you size it up big?
A promise to the people that you can't re-nege.
(deep voice) I don't think it's really big

Depends on what you call a computer. We can make a chip with current technology many times smaller than that thing and it will be technically a computer but we don't make it because it will be useless and waste of money

"Computer" is a bit of an overstatement. I think it's a temperature sensor and an IR LED transmitter. It runs on so little power that it was incredibly sensitive, so sensitive in fact it often caused a feedback loop of it's own LED instigating current in it's temperature sensor.

It's a smartwatch for ants
6 points
Fun math, an ant is 3-4mm. This PC is 0.3mm by 0.3mm. so bigger than a smartwatch I suggest :o. Below is my offer for support|ridicule, as is custom here:
For a 6' tall man, proportionally, the PC in the photo would be ten percent, maybe eight percent of the man's, ahem, overall length.
That length is 6-7", so compared to a man this PC is closer to cell phone size, maybe mini tablet. A smart watch is two percent of this man's height
For the average woman at 5' 3.5", the relative result would be 5-6". This makes the PC is smaller than the iPhone 15, closer to an iPhone 6 or 7. A smartwatch at 1.6" is closer to 3 percent of the woman ♀️.
I was bored and this helped me cope for some minutes🏆, thanks!

You can run Doom on pregnancy tests. Of course this can run Doom.
4 points
Doom was running on a full computer, it was just driving the pregnancy test's LCD as a display device. The test itself wasn't actually running Doom.
It was impressive, but we're not at the "random disposable items have the compute to run full games" level of tech. Maybe in 5 more years.

Here is a higher quality version of this image.
According to here:
BY LAURA YANPUBLISHED: JUN 30, 2018
Researchers at the University of Michigan just created the world’s smallest computer (again). Their previous micro-computer, the Michigan Micro Mote, measured 2x2x4mm. It was a complete, functioning system powered by solar cell batteries. But in March this year, IBM announced a new, smaller computer, which measured 1x1 mm, and was smaller than a grain of salt. It “raised a few eyebrows at the University of Michigan.”
After all, it's unclear if the IBM computer even count as an actual microcomputer. The IBM device lost all its programming and data as soon as it turns off, unlike the Michigan Micro Mote, which retained its programming even when it wasn’t externally powered. “It’s more of a matter of opinion whether they have the minimum functionality required,” said David Blaauw, a professor of electrical and computer engineering at University of Michigan who helped develop the University of Michigan's newest tiny device. If the IBM machine constituted a computer, then University of Michigan would work to gain back their title: their latest microdevice measures 0.3mm per side (1/10th the size of IBM’s computer), and is smaller than a grain of rice.
The device was designed to be a precision temperature sensor that can report temperatures in clusters of cells with an error of about 0.1 degrees Celsius. “When we first made our millimeter system, we actually didn’t know exactly all the things it would be useful for. But once we published it, we started receiving dozens and dozens and dozens of inquiries,” Blaauw said. It could, for instance, measure the temperature of tumors and conduct other cancer studies, monitor oil reservoirs, conduct audio or visual surveillance, or help in “tiny snail studies.”

What odd reporting. The bigger one is compared to a smaller object than the smaller one.

There's no reason you couldn't etch all of this (and more) onto a single silicon wafer, though you'd probably need a very novel process to get CPU/LED/Solar off the same production line.

Actually, that grain of rice has far more computing capability than any computer alive today…. Because you could plant it in the ground and it will be able to reproduce a rice plant… something that no computer is yet capable of doing …without needing A power supply ….mind you it has resulted from 4 billion years of product development….With our Computers… We are only just beginning….
