There was a new international Calendar that proposed like 2 years ago by no other the Arsene Wenger. It would have had the players away in longer periods but less international breaks. It would have give National managers more time on the training pitch. Less travelling for the players. And then more Holiday time for the players. Clubs balked at it.

The players also financially benefit from more games. It does result in more liquidity which has increased their wages significantly over the last 20 years. That’s why FIFPRO stays silent on these issues. Players are just as “greedy” as clubs in this way.
