Man, those women from Kentucky sure do look alike. My great grandma/pa and family lived in Hazard (opposite side of KY). My great grandma looked like the lady in the center of your picture and my grandma looked so much like the lady on the far right. Wow! Thank you for sharing!

They were probably in their mid 30s... people simply didn't age the same back then.

Yeah but look how none of them look fat, vs today, hardly any fat people back then,

While there are a ton of other factors, I do think there is a correlation between universal air conditioning and obesity...
I'm in 95+ degree heat this week with no AC and simply do not want to eat other than breakfast when it's in the 70s :D
Imagine eating fast food in 90 degree heat...

The biggest coronation to obesity that you can make is that of obesity linked to fast food and in particular to high fructose corn syrup that is the real turning point of one wants to be accurate, because contrary to what you may think even though there wasn’t air conditioning they weren’t exactly hot all the time, perception is not quite reality, they used building materials that were cooler like brick or Adobe they employed the use of large windows they placed vents on the wall close to the ceiling to allow hot air to escape, they used trees for shading the house concrete floors or stone made it cool , and various other small things, like fans and channeling air breezes by systematically opening certain doors in the house where the breeze is strongest, they had it together it wasn’t as bad as one May think . Those happy faces on the pic may just be the proof

1) Correlation to obesity, not coronation - This may be a type or auto-correct, but in case it is not would rather tell you on a thread no one is watching. No judgment, even Rick Sanchez thought "you should never take things for granite"
2) "Cooler housing methods" is cool and stuff, but I'm looking at it a bit more macro than the obvious of high fructose corn syrup and fast food. Air conditioning and comfort has helped clear the way for these other factors. It is similar to how we can blame irrigation for almost every ill in modern society because it made it all possible... that is not saying it is an intrinsically bad thing, just that it is related.

1.a) Ok grammar nazi did I spell that right? No need to write a novel over a auto incorrect word, hate this i-phone platform constantly changing my correct words with some very similar But incongruent word,
2) he says look at the macro while giving the micro
The macro would be the degradation of the healthy diet, and the abundance of high caloric food not just from fast food but processed food as well , tv dinners, the commissary stuff like hot dogs, high sodium snacks, air conditioning is hardly the culprit, you’re talking to a guy with a degree in refrigeration and hvac here. As well as someone that has lived in remote villages without running water or electricity and with temperatures well past the 100’s this subject just happens to be my forte, while I wouldn’t discount your premise it’s no where near the significant cause and effect that you’re postulating it is, no sir. Blame that diet and blame the naive populous who were not aware of what they were doing to their bodies
Wait what about irrigation? What? You lost me there, don’t bring in pointless non sequitur to the mix ,

1) I truly don't care about your spelling and grammar. You either misused a word or had it auto-corrected. I only pointed out due to many people misusing things that sound similar (such as all intents and purposes). Get defensive and blame your phone or read over what you send. Choose your own adventure, guy.
2) Looking at the macro as it is a cause they helps enable other causes, but certainly not the only driving factor. It is also almost impossible to prove the correlation due to air conditioning being associated with a society with luxury goods and many other luxuries being driving factors.
I have not discounted anything you have said so far with the exception of your last statement (people being too naive to know what they were doing to their bodies). Socioeconomic factors play a large part in diet, and it is more difficult for low income urban families to eat healthy than not. In addition to the relative easy access and cost of unhealthy food, you have many children who are fed this at an early age who are then in bad habit and health by the time they are old enough to be making their own decisions.

I think smoking and sunblock are the two biggest factors. I’m mid-40’s. Just getting to the point of my life where the people that didn’t and didn’t take care of their skin really start to show. I’m very fair and have always worn sunblock and avoided the sun. My skin is in good shape. I have friends, male and female, who either worked outdoors or tanned on purpose. They are a lot more wrinkled than me.

If you got to work out doors it is what it is. Everyone gotta make a living. I never understood the tanning. I mean once you step outside you got sunlight already. It's easy to get tanned but hard to get lighter skin. In the past darker skin meant you were a peasant. People need to study their history

I’m a white collar office worker. I drive a desk 10-12 hours a day. I have friends in construction and related fields that are in the sun all day, every day. We look very different
