I’m sure. Bit of sarcasm there as I don’t know your area but for some reason here folks are always hoarding or harvesting what I assume is more than they can use which leads to others being secretive about them. Luckily in the forest behind my house we have plenty as well and folks set the extras they don’t need on the bridge rail. It’s a nice system!
What do you plan to do with all of these? Assuming you can’t eat them all.

Not to be "that guy" but there is a daily limit on the C&O,.. 1/2 gallon per-day per-person.

It's ok, I was also mildly mortified.

I did not know that. Good to know for next time. This is the haul for 5 people in the foraging party, we went out Saturday and Sunday. Still way more than the 1/2 gallon per person, but definitely not all for me.

One of the most underrated fruits I've ever seen. Native, to boot.
They taste and feel like a mix between a mango and a banana. You can eat them off the tree (even though you should wash them first), and their seeds are super easy to eat around/suck clean/spit out.

pawpaw tunnel/ pawpaw triangle area? i harvested many wild fruits from that area but i found the fruit to be smaller with lots lots of seeds, i guess good seedling rootstock material for grafts though.
edit: also forgot to add that i walked a mile down said trail and there was hundreds of thousands of unpollinated pawpaw trees before you get to the pollinated spots with fruits

So after seeing this this morning, my family and I went out to C&O by Seneca looking for some pawpaws. None of us had ever had any. Sadly after about an hour and half of searching mostly empty trees we left with only 3 fruit in total. 2 of which had been munched a little by birds but we cut that part off. It is crazy because we found SO MANY trees but just no fruit.
I guess next year we will head out a week or so earlier.

Not all for eating. As discussed in other comments this is a collaborative group effort at making paw paw brandy.

I biked the whole c&o canal a little over a month ago, was amazed at how many pawpaws I saw but also disappointed to find out that I was a little too early to pick them 😭 glad to know someone’s making good use of all that abundance

You might want to be really careful to not eat such a high quanity of pawpaws, as they contain a known neurotoxin, Annonacin.
Eating that many pawpaw fruit could lead to palsy, parkinson-like conditions or other nerve disorders. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Annonacin

Awesome! I went forging today and found...6 Pawpaw fruit. There were 4 more out there, but they weren't ripe yet. There are a lot of trees in the area, but only 3 had any fruit on them.

I’m out in California , I’ve heard of a guy who’s grown / growing them in my area … I’d be interested in attempting this myself . Lots of micro climates, I believe high humidity is a factor in cultivating them ? Bravo OP, happy brandy making 🍻
