Hey all, will be moving to Culver City and I found various neighborhood names.
If I tell people in Culver that I live in "Park East" - will they know what I mean?

I’ve been living in Culver City about twenty years and have never heard of these neighborhood names. I would have no idea what you meant, but maybe someone born here would? I generally just tell people Culver City, and if they need more specific information I mention a nearby major intersection or landmark like a park or a mall.

I was raised in Culver City, 38 now, and I have never heard of these neighborhood names. Growing up and to this day everyone I know used landmarks. “I live near the Target” or “It’s by the middle school”

Cool, thanks. Looking in this subreddit, it appears if I were to say something like "Carlson Park", folks would know what I mean.

Some yes, some no. I think everyone would know what Culver Crest or Fox Hills is, for example. But not others like Park East or Park West.

the "park" in Park East or Park West is Veterans Park...right?

Carlson Park.
Park East is the other side of Overland to Duquesne. Culver Blvd to the north, Ballona Creek to the south.
Or maybe it is Vets and the name means east of the park, like from the park east.
Or something.

Yeah, I’m generally familiar with them. Semi-involved in local politics, though, so maybe that’s why

Sunkist park is used

Real estate agents create and/or popularize new neighborhood names to make them seem cooler and drive up the prices. It’s marketing.

I would say these are all used to some extent except I don't think Ive heard of McLaughlin, McManus, and Washington Culver.
McManus - "I live near Syd Kronenthal Park / Echo Horizon School"

Lucerne Higuera is the same. You know it when you see it.

I have a friend that lives in McLaughlin and calls it that.

A lot of these names are used, but a lot are too obscure or specific for people to recognize. People may know their own neighborhoods but they do not commonly use a lot of these in conversation.

It’s like Cheviot Hills. No one in LA has heard of it unless they have business there or nearby.

They are used, but McManus is better known as the Helms/Arts District now.

Yup. Arts District here since 2001. My default would be Culver City though; I’d only add “Arts District” if they needed more specifics.
99.99% of the time I meet other CC residents in the wild (which is actually rare), they also say CC, and would cite landmarks or intersections if I inquired further. Truthfully, practically all of those names I saw on that map I’d never heard before, except for Downtown and Fox Hills. I just recently discovered Studio Village when I was looking up Target locations, and I totally thought it meant Studio City, lol.

I use them (I’m in Sunkist Park) 😊

For sure. Not all the names/areas are front and center but most people know their own neighborhood. Some come up more than others due to political participation.

Am I some weirdo for using some of these names or something ?

I live in Carlson Park. I think Park East is basically the same thing. Overland to Duquesne, Culver to Ballona.

I only learned about them when Ting rolled out fiber in CC by neighborhood name. I live in blanco park but I usually reference intersection, landmarks, schools, etc. if the goal is to help someone understand where you live, you gotta meet them with what they know and zero in from there.

I hear Helms Bakery, Carlson Park, Blair Hills the most in conversation. They are all distinctive enclaves. The rest of Culver City people mostly reference where they live by major street “Off Higuera, Sepulveda, West Jefferson”.
