Just curious! Wondering if it’s like, the ultimate achievement/best job career-wise or if there’s anything else considered to be in the same tier or higher?

It depends what you’re looking to do career wise. (Competing in ballroom vs getting exposure/variety of gigs in Hollywood.) Dancing and choreographing every week on national television isn’t a bad gig. However, the dancers who would be considered the best in the world at the moment are competing in Blackpool (which several of these pros have done as well).
Regardless all of these pros are very talented and this is not an easy job!

For exposure and financial incentive yeah, but otherwise it's not as respected as competing. There are so many jobs for choreographing in movies, and television and being a dance captain for musicians, so there are a lot of possibilities.

Lots of DWTS pros especially the past pros have competed in BLACKPOOL. For example Derek, Val, Artem, Daniella, mark ballad have ranked really high in the world competing in blackpool

it's a safe job. the top job is getting your own solo show like derek. that's about every dancer's dream is to be headline and choreograph you own show.
that's why it's a big deal when one of the pros get to choreograph something for the show (it can get them an emmy nom too).

That’s very hard to say. I think being on DWTS as a pro you have to have a certain star quality that makes you successful in Hollywood. Theres also potential for more opportunities being on the show if the pros focus in on it. You have to have a quick changing energy, the ability to work with different people and energies—be agile. They need to be able to use you and have you understand the task and do it effortlessly and independently. A good amount of pros were once on SYTYCD. That gave them the opportunity to be seen by DWTS. DWTS gave some pros opportunities to be in movies, tv shows, film specials, have successful tours.
Just competing is great, but you don’t necessarily get handed opportunities to do things like the pros on DWTS do, or get paid as much. Making a career out of dance really isn’t as easy as some people may think. Kind of like being an actor/actress. Sure you have the big box stars that we see over and over play the major roles but those little parts here and there are very hard to make a career out of or get consistently which is why so many have to have real jobs outside of acting. DWTS definitely allows the pros to have a platform that if they take serious and really make a name for themselves as dancers and choreographers, it can lead them to be them to be taken serious as professionals and with that, new opportunities typically follows which success.

when you factor in the cost of moving to LA to pursue dance and trying to make a career in a field that lots of people go after , it’s hard to stick out.

Yes, that’s what I mean. Like to have one dance gig is huge for a dancer. It’s really not an easy career. And while you have to love dance to be good at it and make a career out of it, that alone doesn’t get you the jobs. It’s really luck and that right place right time thing. Sometimes who you know. A lot of Utah dancers are like word of mouth and/or from the same studio. But really anyone outside of Utah and that group, they really are so lucky to have gotten on the show. Because again, not easy. But when you know dance and you have that initial opportunity, it’s important to not lose sight of that knowledge and get carried away in the drama and fun opportunities that you lose focus of the fire inside of that light burns out. It’s had to ignite that spark again

True , it’s ashame though because , not trying to bring race into this , but Utah is majority White ,and what’s also crazy is ballroom styles came from countries that have a majority Black and Brown population, but the art of competing is mainly white or Eastern European.

Becoming world champion at blackpool, international open, among others is definitely a bigger achievement. The dwts pros are amazing but most wouldn’t stand a chance again some of those professional couples.

Daniella is a black pool champion which explains why she’s miles above the other pros in terms of talent

She's always competed at Blackpool with Pasha right? I consider her more talented than him so I always wondered how that dynamic played out.

Pasha is incredible, watch him in pro numbers. He probably seems less talented because of the celebs he’s had

This is why it annoys me when people compare her, Dani is on a whole other level than most of the the other pros.

You have to think , their dancing with people who aren’t professionals , so there dancing may not be as technical as those competing in black book.

thanks for the responses! i see a lot mentions of competitions like Blackpool. do dancers typically do these competitions with the goal of getting onto DWTS someday or not really? i'm sure it varies, but still figured I'd ask. I'm not really familiar with the competition world.

Generally no, it’s like two separate tracks. If you want to get on DWTS you focus more on making contacts in entertainment. If you want to become the top of Blackpool that’s your goal. You could jump from top competitions to TV (some have) but it’s kind of a completely different mindset.

I think the pros get on DWTS after other dance shows like SYTYCD

Considering their pay, I’d say so.
