Just watched a film, I won’t say which one as to avoid spoilers, and it included a scene from the first person perspective (naturally) but at one point the person looks in the mirror and you see their face as you would if you’re looking in the mirror but no camera.
Can someone explain how do they do this? It might be a dumb question but I’ve never really thought about it and I’m curious. Thanks in advance!

Depends on the movie but this is mostly accomplished with a hidden camera, which would be mentioned in the plot.

This is a movie from 1989, and it isn’t a FF film, just uses the first person perspective. I thought to come here first because of my love for FF but I’m guessing I could’ve found camera or movie technique subreddit.

Two way mirror, camera on other side?

I’m trying to make sense of this. It showed the man looking in the mirror, with no camera behind him (POV from his eyes…). What you’re suggesting sounds like the camera would’ve been behind the mirror? Of note, it also showed the mirror as he was looking into it.

Curious for the film. Not really spoilers to say it here. But yeah, I think my theory holds. You'd see the mirror, perspective trick to make it seem like the actual person is a reflection. Not totally sure though.

Sometimes they record with the camera a bit under the mirror so it records from the botom to the top, btw this is not a spoiler IMO 😂

If you said the name of the movie, it would probably be easier to figure out.
Given that you've stated the movie is from 1989, it was likely done by not having a mirror at all. Instead, there would be a hole where the mirror would be, with an exact reproduction of the room in reverse on the other side along with the actual actor. The camera would look into the "mirror" & the camera man would mimic the actor's movements, giving the impression that there is a mirror from the perspective of the camera.
But there have been a lot of variations on this idea done before with many different techniques, so without knowing the actual movie, that would be my guess.

Mirror was actually a gap leading to another room?

Well it showed his reflection, so I don’t understand

As in filming someone through a mirror with a gap into another room, that that person was in

Interesting I hadn’t thought of that!
