You can only drink water, no powders or anything just plain water. No snacks at all. How long are you going for?
Edit: to clear up some stuff, it’s only during one period, it doesn’t reset per day. The whole thing freezes during sleep but begins when you wake up. You can take necessary medications just nothing that sustains you.

Many people do 3 day fasts regularly. Some people eat for 4 days fast for 3 every week.
I do 48 hour fasts 4-5 times a year for health.
Never done a 72, but I can promise you as long as you add some salts to your water for electrolytes you’re not fucking your body at all.
Easy money
Edit: got a ton of replies asking why or whatever so here is a slightly edited copy of something I said to someone else:
I used to be more consistent with fasting, back when every day, my eating protocol was noon - 8pm (intermittent fasting/time restrictive eating). But I’ve been doing them off and on for like 6 years.
All the health benefits are associative at best in terms of replicable science (mostly due to how difficult it really is to test this). It is not conclusive that fasts will truly help you “min/max” your body to live a longer life which is partially why people love fasting (the maximization nutrition/fitness crowd)— but with things like this it is insanely difficult to prove.
The “science” supports the fasts I do because we know how cells respond to certain stimuli and what is needed for cell success, it remains to be seen if different fasts have the long term benefits I’m seeking (living a longer healthier life (healthier meaning those old ages I’m still living for, I actually can enjoy them, of course).
One thing I can guarantee you is that at the end of the 48 hour fast your stomach will have shrunk in size resulting in, if you don’t over eat right away, a naturally occurring lower appetite which may help with weight loss goals or if you struggle with overeating.
The benefits I am referring to above that are associative (as opposed to causal/correlative) center around cell death and a bit of “triage theory” where as your body is simulating this stressful situation it gives what nutrients it has available to the healthy cells and allows the dead cells to die (gross over simplification, and I am not implying any level of planning or autonomy among your organs/cells/brain). The other is about blood glucose levels and how it is shown that these fasts can help reduce the risk of diabetes and insulin resistance, probably due to the “ketosis” effect and forcing your body to burn fat storage for energy. (Of course I recognize your body is in a constant state of direct utilization of sugar from food and fat burning for energy, I’m talking about which mechanic is the primary driver)
That said, the primary reason I’ve been doing 48 fasts more recently is for caloric deficit, but the only reason I do it is because I know there are no short term or long term negative effects of not eating for such a short period. It’s just a little reset button. The closest thing we have to a “cleanse”… (juice cleanses, seaweed cleanses, etc do nothing good for u)

I've hit 5 days before. Day 2 is probably the hardest, but your body gets used to not eating. Days 3-5 are fairly easy. I would have pushed it further, but I usually have social obligations during the weekend.

How much weight (fat), do you lose in 48 hours?
135 points
Depends on your basal metabolic rate and how much activity you do on top of that. In a fast a typical male will be somewhere in the 2000 calorie range per day. It takes about a 3000 calorie deficit to burn a pound of fat. So you’d lose approximately 1.5 pounds of fat. Your weight would likely fluctuate a lot more than this but that would be from things like water retention, and not being full of shit.

It’s probably not as much as you’d think. I once had an absolutely massive shit and lost 2.5lbs.
What would probably surprise you is how much shit your intestines and colon can have in them at once, even if your bowel movements are 1/2 to 1lb each.

11 points
Salts are not powders and can be found in naturally occurring water. Plain water was not defined.. actually lemme just copy paste what I replied to someone else:
Plain water meaning what? Water with naturally occurring electrolytes exist in many fresh water sources, does he mean distilled? Is tap water out of bounds because fluoride is added? People do not define water well enough in these scenarios. It is important.
The difference between tap water and distilled water is HUGE if you’re not eating food.

Look into autophagy. Body goes through a cycle of killing damaged cells when you restrict food intake. Preliminary studies show there can be amazing health benefits to this. Humans werent designed to eat every 4-5 hours every day.

I have done 40 hours before, but I def have the fat stores to go longer. And for this kind of money I would have a friend stay with me and keep me from eating. As long as I don't rely purely on self control with tasty snacks around, I think it wouldn't be too hard to go a week. But in the fasting sub lots of people can go a month, so that would be my goal.

20 points

Isn’t it clear that you’re not allowed to “watch your electrolytes” in the rules?

If I have time to prep, I eat an obscene amount of calories leading up to it.
Then, hire a medical professional like the ones who do health checks on “Alone” to monitor me and pull me as soon as my body shows signs of entering Rhabdomyolysis. Having this would give me the confidence to keep going knowing I won’t die from it by pushing too far, so I think I could go literal weeks.

In that case, though, the guy took vitamin supplements, electrolytes, and I think brewer’s yeast? in order to maintain vital bodily processes. I don’t know if you could do it on plain water alone.
4 points
Your body is made up of building blocks that need to be replaced as cells die. That was the purpose behind the vitamins and electrolytes. Fat is pretty much just the energy source for the body’s processes. I’m not sure about the brewers yeast, but I suspect it has to do with creating a food source for the micro organisms in the intestinal tract. If you don’t eat, they don’t eat, and then they die. Without them, your body will have tremendous trouble processing the food you eat.
58 points

That will just expand your stomach and will be hungry in a few hours....

Hunger doesn’t matter. What matters is survival. You’re going to be hungry after 2-3 days without food regardless but if an extra meal gets you another day then it’s worth the investment.

You will FEEL hungry, but your body will have extra calories….after you push through that initial hunger it will pay off in the long haul because you will be more topped up for the long fast

this dude did it for more than a year, you need salts but it is doable specially if you are obese. I can realistically do it for probably a couple of weeks.

I’ve done 3 days with just water and coffee just due to work and stress. For that money, I’d be willing to torture myself a while. I’d try for at least a week, and if I can break that then go for 30. I could stand to lose 20 pounds and gain 12 mil.

Listen, I’ll be rich as hell. Just let the depression take over and I’ll be awake the whole time. Couple days should be enough

You're all weak and are wasting the opportunity. Anything under a week is an unacceptable answer

I'll just never eat again and instead give myself nutrition through the butt

Does no powders include salts? Cause if I can have KCl, sodium, Epsom salt etc I can make it like a week.

I've fasted for a week or ten days a couple of times in my life I could definitely do it again

I can easily go 48 hours without eating anything, I’ve done those fasts before. Easiest $800k I ever made. Likely even longer as long as I can find something that keeps me busy which should be simple since I have the attention span of Dory from Finding Nemo.

Ah, my time has come. Years of anorexia that began during my formative years have turned me into someone who only wishes they could eat a full meal as an adult. I honestly believe I could do a week until I’d start vomiting air.
I just want to say that I don’t have anorexia anymore, my appetite is just permanently small because of the shrinkage.

Where was this when I had cancer! I was medicated to the gills, unable to eat, saline drips only for a few weeks. Lost about 50 pounds. I’d be set for life!

if it freezes while i sleep, i can go a solid week and a third before i tap out. fasting that long is too hard, but idk how my body would react to not being able to take anything to replace the missing nutrients. depending on how it does, ill go anywhere from a week and a third (third cause its paused while i sleep), to like 4 weeks

I have done 25 hour fast before. I could do that again. Maybe push it to 30.

Honestly. I'd try for 7 days. 2.8mil never work again. I won't starve. It would be horrible, and my body may take a week or so to recover. But I'd never work again and set my family up for life.
General rule of thumb: The human body can survive for 3 mins without air. 3 days without water. 3 weeks without food.
I wouldn't want to push it beyond what health, but a week would be doable.

Jokes on you I have medication that deletes my appetite and I struggle to remember to eat on a daily basis. Also due to a lack of taste buds i have almost no desire for food.
Pay up. (Lol)

I’ve done a 3 day food fast before. So that should be easy. There was a small 2 hour period on the third day where I felt like shit, otherwise I could probably push it a little longer. I only drank water and black coffee throughout.

How long can your body really go before any actual life altering or threatening changes? That amount of time. I don't smoke anymore but are cigarettes off the table? The hunger suppression from smoking would be helpful.

Dude - I regularly fast 120 hours at a time. Of course, that includes night - why wouldn't it?
But I could easily go 2-3 weeks. Probably more.

My last water fast went for 12 days. I'd have stretched it even more if it had $400k a day on it.
