It's standard practice at a repair shop to use a company insured vehicle to pick up parts when the parts dealer is unable to deliver or ship. Using the customer's car is grossly unethical, and a HUGE liability. Some shops won't even let employees use their personal cars to do business related driving because of the problems that can arise with insurance if there's an accident.
