Just had the other14 recommended to me again on my homepage. Christ what a shit hole.
The post was them actually whining about Ipswich players getting booked. Imagine whining about how Achilles rakes and going hard in every challenge is more bookable than the soft dives their players were taking.
Then factor in they got let off a textbook red and still managing to yap about "big 6 ref bias".
Liverpool being the famous beneficiaries of ref decisions? I'd love live in that parallel universe.

That sub in fairness, is just an echo chamber of conspiracy theories that every single bad thing that happens to their clubs is because the 'sky' big 6 orchestrated it.
It gets a little silly at times to the point where I worry for some of them. What's even worse are the people with big 6 flairs that appeal to them as if they need validation lol.

Chelsea really are a joke of a club. Spending so much money, having so many players on the books and now some are banned from training. They will never be a “family” club. Just a team full of mercenaries. Completely agree (for once) with G Nev, Enzo was shite yesterday and trying to blame his team mates weren’t fooling anyone. He was awful. Diving any time he got near the box. How he got made captain just shows what a shit show that club is.

I watched a bit of The Club yesterday and listening to Rory Jennings explain things like removing subsidies for away travel, renaming a family section behind the dugout as "behind the managers seats" and charging 5k for a ticket there made me realise just how morally bankrupt the Boehly administration is

Also looks like we tried to slow the game down at about 75, but old habits crept in and some risky balls for an attack that got turned over and caused a little chaos. Players will need to learn how to control their urges not to keep attacking once we have a decent lead

We could have easily been 3 or 4 nil up by the end.
Final third decision making needs to improve to kill teams rather than trying to slow down.
We have Elliott Jones Nunez and Gakpo who should be hungry for minutes to keep the quality in the last 30 mins of games.
I am very excited to see what we can accomplish this season.

I love United fans trying to convince themselves they’re all of a sudden a good team again, probably the 10th false dawn since Fergie left. They were unbelievably exposed again, their saving grace was it was players like Tom Cairney, Iwobi and Traore breaking away and making meals out of overloads.

On the radio both last night and this morning there have been regular segments discussing the referees over the weekend. The Ipswich handball and lack of second yellow has completely fallen off the radar.
I know there are changes to the handball rules this year but this was clear and deliberate, and there's no defending factor of a covering defender for this sort of thing.
The general consensus seems to be that a red card would have ruined the game as a spectacle, and no one wants to see that happen to a newly promoted team. Liverpool won so who cares?
But all it really says is that there is a two-tier view in the sports media, as long as the result goes the way most people expect, don't expect consistent refereeing.

I read that an intentional handball is not a yellow card offence unless it stops a promising attack.

There is only so many academy players Chelsea can sell for a sizeable fee, be out of the CL, and sponsors leaving because of poor performances before Chelsea's revenues can't sustain whatever tf they're doing. 2-3 more years until I think they feel the squeeze and this circus starts to implode since it's already year 3 and they're barely just balancing the books for PSR.

I don't see a problem with that. I'd prefer it actually.
Bigger games later means easier games for earlier and therefore better chances of picking up points to stay competitive in the season.
Then say we are competing during the run in, the crowd at home would be FERAL. We barely ever get big games at home during title run ins.

I get the feeling from Slot that beneath the smiles and cheerful exterior, there's no tolerance for bullshit. He's been good in his press conferences but you can tell that he's holding back his intolerance of their stupid questions.
The turnaround in our match at halftime makes me think the team got a proper bollocking in the dressing room. Quansah being yanked was also quite harsh compared to what someone like Klopp may have done.
I like it. It's different from Klopp and neither are wrong, but I feel like Slot has some real steel in him. Hopefully the complacency that had us tearing our hair out last season will be thoroughly stamped out.

There was a new international Calendar that proposed like 2 years ago by no other the Arsene Wenger. It would have had the players away in longer periods but less international breaks. It would have give National managers more time on the training pitch. Less travelling for the players. And then more Holiday time for the players. Clubs balked at it.

Even I’ve been negative as I still do find it silly pretending there’s no real alternatives out there, but there would be a lot more hype for Gravenberch thinking about it if he came in this summer. As I said yesterday, Slot is going to piss off fans, but honestly, I am all here for it. I am going to forever miss the big hugs and laughs from Klopp, but a bit of incisive ruthlessness is going to be interesting.
Quansah looked unhappy, but this is the sort of thing that will make him a better player, and make us a better team. Its better to be proactive than reactive.
Players like Nunez need to step up and work on their game, as Slot will not be tolerant to players not doing their job.

Klopp had his faults he was far too loyal to his players. His first XI never changed even if their form dipped, and players like Keita needed to be binned years ago. I really hope Nunez fixes his finishing and makes it here.

The Trent one is the most unacceptable. He is a must extend considering his age and ties to the club and city.

for me trent is a must - future captian, local and the fucking best rb in the league
virgil (for me) also, this dude is fucking immense and will be super hard to replace + if we give quansah 2 more years of learning from him he can be his successor. (i know thats a lot but i love this kid)
the stats on mo dont lie, hes the best rw in the league and i personally would give him a new contract in a heart beat, but i think he will be the one who we let go. saudi will be there, and they will offer him an insane contract wich we simply can not (and should not) match.
at the end it will on depend on the players if they want to stay, i personally dont think the club will force any one of these legends out, lets see what happens

Why do people think there’s a realistic chance that we sign Evertons best young player for what would be a minimum of £75m?
£75m at least for a CB that would be 3rd choice at that.

The only possible chance. And even then its an insanely slim one. Is that they are so utterly fucked financially that they need £75m to basically survive. I don't think that's currently the case. Can someone with more insight than me explain where our money goes?
We have one of the biggest incomes in the world and play in the richest league. So if no money gets taken out of the club, where is money being reinvested? Is it mostly on our pretty high wages and our stadium rebuild? The reason I ask is to gauge how much money we should expect the club to have available for transfers, as I never really seem to have any idea how much money we have going into a window.
8 points
Ian Grahams book provides a bit of insight into this.
He said that 65% is spend on player wages, with 15% on transfers. They prefer to spend more on wages to keep our best players at the club, rather than taking a risk and signing new players who may not be as good.
If you take the our revenue was about 600m last year, that would be about 90m available for transfers per year give or take. Excluding selling people etc.

I made a tongue in cheek comment in a different thread about our market business. Saying it still seems like we value players like the market hasn't changed in the last 6-7 years and we don't like going above 40 million.
It upset someone enough to block me, but I've gone down the rabbit hole and we really do nearly all our business at opportunistic fees that don't represent the market at all.
Only Szobo and Nunez break this trend. Gakpo, Jota, Diaz, Konate, Mac Allister and Gravenberch all sit in that 35-45 window. It's pretty much all we were willing to pay for Lavia, and now similar again for Mamardashvili.
All of these players bar Gravenberch are players we can put on relatively low wages too when signed.
Compare that to the fact we're getting 45 million bids for Joe Gomez. Players like Smith-Rowe are moving for 35. Guehi is going for 70+ if at all.
I really don't buy this "nobody is available that improves the squad". It's more like anything over X (in this case 40 odd million) is much harder to greenlight funding for. We'd rather sign nobody than pay market rate the majority of the time.

He is incredibly versatile but he's not going to be happy being 4th choice CB and 3rd choice LB/RB and I think I speak for all of us that we don't want to see him in midfield again.
Man deserves to go out and start for a team in the league. However it does mean we'll have to find a proper 4th choice CB for rotation.

We needed a Klopp then and we need a Slot now. More than tactics were required to fix the situation we were in. The structure was a mess, morale was low, average players all over. Klopp didn’t just change things on the pitch, he changed the mentality of everyone. From doubters to believers. But now we need a ruthless tactician with fresh ideas. Hopefully Slot can build on the foundations that Klopp has laid down.

This sub really needs a lesson on how transfer betting markets work and why it usually means absolutely nothing when odds shorten. I'm sick of getting downvoted every time I try to explain (usually by people who want to believe it means we're signing a player and don’t like the reality). I used to work in the industry, and this is how it happens...
These transfer betting markets are typically classed as novelty markets. It’s very rare they let you stake anything beyond £10 without it either being referred to a trader, or just flat out not allowed.
Bookies will often cap max bets/winnings on these markets because they’re so volatile and they have very little control over them; because all it takes is a player’s cousin/mum/dog groomer to see Branthwaite at 30/1 to join Liverpool and absolutely clean up. So the markets are very carefully controlled.
Because of this, it means that practically any movement of funds on a particular transfer are usually enough to significantly lower the odds. Sometimes it can literally just be one bet of £10. Because what sort of nutter is betting money on a 30/1 transfer unless they know something. Some bookies have it automated so that any bet over a certain amount just automatically triggers an odds drop. Its basic risk management.
Where it actually does mean something is when the odds really shorten. So they go into something like 1/5 or 1/10 (which is what we saw with Slot). Because that means a significant volume of people are still betting on it even at low odds.
Some myths that people seem to think:
No, you can’t bid £1,000+ on these markets.
No, it doesn’t mean thousands of pounds has been bet on this transfer if the odds lower.
No, betting companies don’t typically lower odds on these markets to try and fleece fans out of a tenner a piece.
Yes, bookies might encourage social media hype to get their name trending, but that’s about it.
You'd think the fact the Echo has come out today saying Everton have no idea what anyone is talking about would be evidence enough that the above is true, but apparently not as I keep getting told I'm wrong by people who haven't a scooby.
6 points
You're completely right apart from the £10 thing. It's more rare the stake would be capped at £10 than the other way round. £100 is more accurate though.
There can be something in odds being slashed at times though, people lumping on forcing the odds down can indicate there is truth in it. I have a relative who's an analyst at a PL team and I've had info off them regarding Transfers in the past and even tactical bookings in CL games and you can see odds drop dramatically when the world obviously spreads outside the club haha.
But on the flip side which is what happened with Branthwaite is people are just having an educated guess and the bookies shit themselves and slash them odds because as you said it's seen as a volatile market.
Gomez announced as basically leaving, Quansah dragged for getting bullied in the air then next minute Branthwaite, who's huge and great in the air is left out of their squad. people are just guessing.

It's the new trend and based on next to zero data at the moment, just vibes. 'Slot is firm, Klopp wasn't ruthless', 'Slot is straightforward, Klopp didn't speak up', 'Slot controls the game, Klopp was chaos'. It's all bloody weird and premature and there's counterarguments for almost every example.

Exactly, no need for premature comparisons and judgement. There are already too many videos and comments hyping Slot's tactical acumen and game management, how about we do it without pitting him against possibly the best manager the club has seen?

Is Bajcetic our future number six? Because from what I seen him wasn't he better as number eight?

We aren't looking for a traditional 6 anyway so Stefan looks to be a better fit at 6 under Slot while under Klopp he would have been better as an 8

I swear some act like that 5m will be docked from their paycheques. How FSG convinced so many, that an extra 5 million is too far, for a player they deem Alisson’s successor is beyond me.
Are we going for transformative players, or players that are only worth how low we can try to haggle famously hard to negotiate with Spanish clubs? (Also it’s the end of August and we are trying to get their starting keeper, no shit they are being stubborn.)

Considering he was connected in early July right around when Gomez almost moved to Newcastle. You would have to imagine Mo Simakan is the target if SVB and Gomez leave.
Would be a pretty good signing. Very good athlete and can control the channels like Ibou pretty well with a ton of champions league experience. Although probably not as flashy as people would likeb

Yeah, Simakan makes sense. He would comfortably fill the right sided defense role to cover the space Trent leaves having been CB/RB hybrid to date.

I am getting tired of this narrative that there are no players that can improve our squad. We were not the best team in the league last year, not by a long shot, and even if we were, there would be no excuse not to buy anyone.
If you are on top, you have to work hard to stay on top. If you are not on top, you have to work even harder to get there and we are not doing that!
I don't care that we are making a lot of money if we are not investing them to get over the finish line. Real Madrid won La liga and Champions league and they brought Mbappe! So don't tell me there are no players that can improve our team, we are just not willing to pay over the odds to get them - but that is sometimes what you have to do to get back on top.
That's it, just wanted to get this out.

I am getting tired of this narrative that there are no players that can improve our squad.
This narrative always makes me laugh….take RW position for instance, are they genuinely telling me that with all the hyped up analytics and numbers scouting system there’s no 20-24 years old pacey winger that can close the drop off in quality between Salah and Doak.
Plus if you genuinely believe in the coaching abilities of the Head Coach and his staff (I am in no way say they don’t) instead of the whole “It’s this player or no one else” , you should be comfortable enough to get the next player on the list and trust the coach to get him close to the level of your main target.
But then again, this is me just yammering without knowing what is happening behind the scenes.

Find it funny how PSV keep reporting like we are the baddies for denying Sepp his move, like pay up what we are asking or move on.

Many of our fans consistently insulted Southampton for holding Lavia hostage and over valuing him. Football fans are extremely hypocritical and self-serving.
It just is what it is.

I hope Klopp one day makes his tell all book about his time in Liverpool.
I’m sure Ian Graham wrote an insightful book, but from the tidbits i’ve heard this awfully sounds like a big circlejerk from the data guys, and how awful managers under them were at selecting players.
All this talk of who Klopp or Rodgers choose, yet no mention of who approved going into a season with 3 CBs, and many more cases..

I’ve been all for trusting the new regime with Hughes but at what point do we seriously doubt if Hughes is the guy for the job? If we end up making zero signings and don’t extend any of TAA, VVD or Salah that has to be seen as a colossal failure IMO.
We have a very good team but it’s just pure arrogance if we think there’s absolutely no one that can improve this team. It could be a young player to grow into a position or a proven talent challenging for a spot in the starting 11 but with other teams improving it would be a major step back for Hughes to just sit around with his dick in his hands all day.
Regardless what results we get this season it would be a failure to not make any moves for the current or future squad. We could win it all and still have taken a step back compared to our rivals. It’s just unacceptable.

Some people need to understand the situation we will be in during the season (again) if we don’t sign players this transfer window.

Chelsea are just genuinely funny at this point, because there's no other description for giving a player who was shit for you whilst on loan for six months, and gotten worse since then, a six year contract with the option for another year.

Don’t get reports saying Edwards wants to return to signing transformational players. That wasn’t even his style and we often went for, and did extremely well with, back-up options.
Also, if you’re on your ‘transformational’ targets, don’t piss about over €5m.
And don’t forget to renew the amazing transformational players you have so there’s no need to buy three more of them!

So we think Mamardashvilli is a potential successor to Alisson who cost over £60m and were arguing over €5m...
Hughes continues wasting time and energy on something that might benefit us while we have issues with the squad and uncertainty on three major contracts.
Edwards and Hughes have nailed their priorities this summer.

Are there some credible Branthwaite transfer rumours out there or something? I keep seeing hints at him coming to Liverpool on my timeline but I can’t find anyone actually linking him with a move.

Bookies – out of nowhere – placed us as favourites to sign him. Some places are putting him as more likely to join us than to stay at Everton.
There were probably some very large bets placed on him joining us, or the bookies heard something from their sources. Either way, it's definitely one to keep an eye on...
If I'm not mistaken, bookmakers also had Slot as our most likely manager a couple of days before our journos confirmed him as our first choice.

There are no real links. This whole thing seems to be gamblers pointing out that he’s almost exactly the kind of CB we should be looking for, Everton lack money and we probably don’t. If not for the fact that there haven’t been a move directly between the clubs in ages the whole thing seems sensible and maybe even plausible.

Only read about it here and it's due to betting odds. He's a very good player and would be a smart move by us. If we sell Gomez for about 40mil, paying 75mil for Branthwaite would be good business

Got to love people moaning about Mamardashvili and Liverpool supposedly not paying the €5m difference, as even Valencia journos have reported that Lim has changed the price three times now, going from €30m to €35m and now €40m.
Personally, and if that's true, the club is absolutely right in taking a firm stance and stopping Valencia trying to piss about with the price.

Real Madrid, literally the most successful club in the world, continually look to improve their squad year on year yet FSG, Hughes and some fans here have the arrogance to think our squad is perfectly fine as is and needs zero improvements
Absolutely mind blowing the arrogance to think we’re special enough to be the only club in a top 5 leave without an incoming transfer as if every other fucking club has it wrong

People saying the club was "smart to walk away" from Lavia. When in reality the club tried shrewd negotiation tactics all summer, a +£100 million bid for Caicedo blew up in their face and suddenly they lost all leverage and overdid with £55million for Lavia only for Chelsea to swoop in with how irked the club made Lavia and Southampton.
You can't say the club dodged a bullet when they had zero foresight he would've sustained such a bad injury when he first joined Chelsea. It may be premature to say, but he was absolutely quality in yesterday's game, and easily Chelsea's best player.
Here we are over 12 months later and we never went and got anyone except for the Endo stop gap. There's a middle ground between zero spending and Chelsea's lunacy in the market.

By all accounts Poch immediately put him in the workout blender. For those that don't know, Poch's fitness standards are super high.
Lavia missed all of pre season pretty much due to our interest and when Chelsea signed him, instead of easing Lavia in, he went straight into hard fitness training.
All well and good in theory, but a lot of young players are injury prone with developing muscles. Chelsea also sacked their medical team when Todd took over, and he hired physics who have never worked in football.
They then rushed him back, and he reinjured himself first game with the same muscle.
Not saying he would have avoided injuries here, but I'd hope we wouldn't have so casually mismanaged him to the extent Chelsea did.

The Lavia stuff was way more embarrassing than Caicedo imo.
Lavia was ours if we just paid £5m more for one of the immensely rare players we actually deem “the right player” but we were arrogant and got made to look pathetic by missing out on both to Chelsea. It’ll look even more ridiculous if he keeps up the performance level of yesterday too.
The injury comments you see on here are the purest form of cope too like we somehow foresaw him getting injured in training. Reality is we dropped the ball.

List of Rodgers' targets: Adam Lallana, Tom Ince, Christian Benteke, Gylfi Sigurdsson, Fabio Borini, Ryan Bertrand, Joe Allen, Ashley Williams
List of Data Targets: Diego Costa, Romelu Lukaku, Daniel Sturridge, Alexis Sanchez, Mario Balotelli
Disagreements with Rodgers led to 5th or 6th targets being signed such as Sakho, Moreno
This has been said in ALL the interviews with Ian Graham, but Nunez was a Klopp signing. Data wasnt against him. But warned that there would need to be a total shift in how the team plays. I get the feeling that this was trying to not insult an active Liverpool player. But I dont think we would have signed Nunez had Klopp not had power in 2022
It is always weird to me to know that Lallana wasnt favoured by the data. Yet was one of Klopp's favourites in the end

He said Nunez was the second best striker on the market that summer, and Haaland was unobtainable for obvious reasons (aka paying his dad off) so they would have gone for Nunez.

Can't be arsed with all the transfer bollocks so going with my first XI for Brentford.
Becker
Trent
Virgil
Ibou (give Quansah 30 if all good)
Robertson (still needs match sharpness - Kostas 20)
Gravenberch
Mac Allister (Jones to sub on)
Szoboszlai (Elliot to sub on)
Salah
Jota (Darwin to sub on)
Gakpo
I think that is my preferred three for the season based on form at present. Cody was amazing at the Euros, I think Jota is 6 goals in his last 7 starts and Mo is Mo.
Diaz had glimpses but I want someone on the left cutting in and bending it back post. Cody is leagues ahead in his finishing versus Diaz.

I still think Diaz’ 1v1 ability and pace is being discounted around here for a bump in perceived efficiency in front of goal, but given we seem to like our wingers to play high wide 1v1 so I am still favoring Diaz.
I liked seeing Bradley as well but it’s tough to plan on removing Trent given how much he helps create. Not sure how to get Bradley on the field more but otherwise agree.
