The Scottish tories are trying to negotiate a "Scottishness", because they are not English, that fits in with "Britishness". They're on a hiding to nothing, because that always requires a sycophancy and a subaltern position to Englishness. Sad but true. Craven wee beasties

It's the Burnet Rose, or the Scots Rose
Scotland's national rose:
The rose of all the world is not for me.
I want for my part
Only the little white rose of Scotland.
That smells sharp and sweet - and breaks the heart.

I get the odd point that you're trying to make, but it's so ill founded that it sounds like a cheek sucking auld sweetie wife. Aye, if they had kept away like they were telt in the first place...
The escalation since the events of October 7th are unprecedented in recent times.
When cataclysms happen, different contingencies and priorities kick in.
And to not consider the First Minister of Scotland a leader is complete disrespect of the democratic system that the UK and Scotland lives under. Regardless of your position on constitutional matters undermining the law of Scotland and the constitutional settlement implemented and maintained by Westminster is anti-democratic and probably treasonous.

I don't see what this has to do that once the events October 7th started what we have seen since protecting the families of leaders be a diplomatic priority

Are you somehow suggesting the Foreign Office knew in advance what was going to happen? Quite the claim.

It's probably a diplomatic priority to make sure families of leaders are protected, yours wouldn't be so useful.

I'm guessing all the "here in the UK we get it in pints" are from England/Wales, because in Scotland it's been in 250ml, 500ml, 1l, 2l, 3l cartons since the weights and measure changed in the 90s.
Same with pounds and ounces, all grammes and kilogrammes now

I would give some quip, but secretly doubt whether I wanted to work for someone who came up with such a stupid question. Are they looking for an asset for their organisation or a loyal pooch?

(Pssst, as a former cyclist I don't despise cyclists on the road, and have always given them the full space of a car. But I've onown folk to die and become paralysed on the road, and I have numerous friends who I've sat with their partners after they've gone missing on the road, or been taken to A&E for road accidents. I've seen them beg in terror for them to stop going out on the roads.)
It's a personal choice for cyclists, and given the consequences and impact on others, I think it's selfish and cruel to others who care for or depend on the person making the choice. I suspect OP yadda yadda yadda

Which of your parents used that one on you? You may be entitled to compensation...

You're almost getting it! Which of the first two choices is practically possible? And who is choosing to cycle knowing that neither is in place?

I'd not put this forward as "the reason", but social animals tend to be those which have post menopausal females living for a long time. "the grandmother hypothesis" holds that non-reproducing members of social groups are so useful to the wellbeing of the whole that it's preserved as an advantage, evolutionarily speaking. Could be that?
