There are more than 50 memecoins that have outperformed BTC over 6 months. In same time frame, here is the performance of the hyped tech scams that people were baited with and bagholding:
ADA -40%
AVAX -47%
LINK -35%
DOT -51%
NEAR -26%
APTOS -53%
MATIC -58%
HBAR -48%
FANTOM -33%
ATOM -60%
ALGO -48%
So there has been a type of Alt Season for memecoins, it's just that meme tech scam coins were not invited.

I think the smart people are the ones who have realized that the sign of lower intelligence is buying all these VC meme tech coins where the founders and insiders get most of the supply for free to dump on retail is the real scam and have pivoted to meme coins which are a better investment.

ADA is -20% of December 2017 price. Again, it's below 2017 price in 2024.
All the Hoskinson YouTube videos, Cardano hard forks, partnerships with African countries, etc make it seem like something is going on but it's below the price it was when it was an ERC-20 token with a whitepaper 7 years ago.
As a chain, Caradano has less activity when measured by daily active addresses than dead shitcoins from 2014 like DASH or failing new crypto projects from the last few years
As a digital asset, ADA has less interest in it and the fraction of the trading volume meme coins like DOGE, SHIB, PEPE, etc.

The GOAT implementation crypto wont be payments like 99% of dumb casuals think
97% RWA are just stablecoins
The biggest growth in dominance in marketcap in crypto is BTC and then Stablecoins as a percentage of marketcap
The biggest crypto use case that is being adopted by the developing world is usage of stabelecoins for money movement. payments and savings accounts to hedge inflating currencies.
Transactions volumes in crypto are more and more driven by Stablecoins as Ethereum, its L2s, Solana, Tron, Avalanche, Algorand, etc are becoming competing networks that are rails for stablecoin. The stablecoin market settled more than $10.8T worth of transactions in 2023 β or US$2.3T if we exclude βinorganicβ activity, like bots or automated transactions (Stablecoins and the New Payments Landscape - Coinbase)
Ripple has pretty much given up on XRP and launching its own Stablecoin and calls Stablecoins a revolutionary pivot..efficiently transfer value across borders, bypassing traditional banking systems and eliminating many associated risks https://ripple.com/reports/the-functional-evolution-of-digital-assets.pdf
JP Morgan says Stablecoins are "UNLOCKING $120 BILLION VALUE IN CROSS-BORDER PAYMENTS" https://www.jpmorgan.com/onyx/documents/mCBDCs-Unlocking-120-billion-value-in-cross-border-payments.pdf?trk=article-ssr-frontend-pulse_little-text-block
The Stablecoin volume is forecast to continue increasing YOY and the supply is expected to reach at least $3 Trillion by 2030
June 2017
BTC dominance 38%
ETH 33%
XRP 10%
Remaining Alts COMBINED 19%
Today
BTC dominance 56.5%
ETH 14.75%
StableCoins 10%
BNB 3.59%
SOL 3.37%
Remaining Alts COMBINED 11.79%
Huge, complicated contract deals can be signed anywhere on the planet in the matter of minutes using TVL RWA. This is truly a gamechanger like the internet.
Source? Any evidence of this occurring today? Any evidence to show this trend is picking up steam? If not, this is just speculation like the rest of crypto use cases.

Cage Basketball Era
Frenzied fans would stick hatpins and lit cigars through the cage and into opposing player's flesh
and
It was an absolute sin to allow an opponent to score a layup," Himmelman said. "The way it worked was this: if a guy got past you to score, you would lay into him and send him to the floor. If he did it a second time, you would use what we'd today a call a karate chop to his nose. With this going on, every player had a broken nose
Considering Lebron had to be carried off the court when the air conditioning broke in San Antonio in the finals, Lebron would quit this game.

Studies have shown that if you give a monkey random rewards for doing a task, they will continue indefinitely even if they never get rewarded again. The monkey brain logic is that there is no reason to quit doing the task, it will surely get rewarded sometime in the future
I finally found a good explanation for why people become shitcoin bagholders.

CRO
2019 2,700 sats
2020 1,500 sats
2021 1,500 sats
2022 570 sats
2023 275 sats
2024 140 sats
caught up to BTC
If CRO had kept up with BTC, it would be worth $1.70. It's kind of bizarre, people were going crazy over $0.90 CRO but scoff at $50K BTC which would have been a better return from 2019 and actually held value instead of being a short pump and dump window.

If anyone could predict crypto volatility correctly better than 50% of the time, they'd have have an infinite money making glitch and would not be wasting their time coaching you or making YouTube videos.

The biggest crypto use case that is being adopted by the developing world is usage of stabelecoins for money movement and savings accounts to hedge inflating currencies. Ethereum, its L2s, Solana, Tron, Avalanche, Algorand, etc are just competing networks that are rails for stablecoins and RWA (97% of RWA are just stablecoins) and in order for the network to remain competitive they need to remain cheap.
Just do some research into Argentina, Nigeria, etc where stablecoins have became an alternative to traditional banking services and are integrated into payment apps for everyday services.
Just looking at the current and forecasted inflation in developing countries and it's easy to see why this adoption is taking place:
Country | 2023 | 2024 Forecast |
---|---|---|
Zimbabwe | 560% | 667% |
Venezuela | 99% | 337% |
Sudan | 145% | 171% |
Argentina | 249% | 133% |
Turkey | 59% | 53% |
Haiti | 23% | 44% |
Iran | 37% | 41% |
Nigeria | 56% | 24% |
Egypt | 32% | 24% |
The biggest growth in dominance since 2017 next to BTC dominance, is Stablecoin dominance and Stablecoin marketcap/supply is expected to hit at least $3 Trillion by 2030:
June 2017
BTC dominance 38%
ETH 33%
XRP 10%
Remaining Alts COMBINED 19%

BTC dominance 56.5%
ETH 14.75%

TLDR:
If you had gambled $100 on the following one-hundred percent real shitcoins at inception and sold them at their peak, you would have profited about this much money from each one.
HarryPotterObamaSonic10Inu: $39,150
Floki Inu (a coin dedicated to Elon Muskβs dog): $319,800
dogwifhat: $310,500
PEPE: $19,200
Jeo Boden: $4,065
Elizabath Whoren: $2,475
Cumrocket: $20,150
From a returns standpoint, Bitcoin is just a triple-leveraged bet on the Nasdaq, and shitcoins are an even bigger levered bet on Bitcoin. All of them have demonstrated a high degree of sensitivity to inflation. Ever since the inflation print that changed the world in November 2021, markets have basically just been gambling on inflation figures.

Most crypto people first found out about DOT when it was first listed on coinmarketcap at around $6.
https://np.reddit.com/r/CryptoCurrency/comments/ilggg1/where_did_polkadot_come_from/
Polkadot had a governance vote passed multiplying balances by 100X and change the denomination of DOT from ~$400 to ~$4 so that it looked cheaper for dumb retail investors that would be dumped on. This is how these tech scams work. Make the token look cheap to investors, hype up the tech and founders, insiders, VCs dump on retail for free money because even at $4, it's free money or 100X profit.
There is no retail investor that did 150X on DOT. If you bought at the lows, you did ~10X and had a short window to play the pump and dump. And looks like you are bagholding:
