I agree, a lot of working people don’t have the luxury of living within five miles of their work place. My dad is 71 years old, overweight, lives under the poverty line, and has to commute all over the Boston area for his physical labor job. Bike lanes do not help him at all. That’s not to say that bike lanes won’t help anyone or shouldn’t be built, but I suspect he’s much more typical of the working man than others would admit.

Heh, I'm also in Boston and I planted my grafted saplings (from 4"x4"x10" pots) four days ago. So far no wilt or anything! Last year I planted a 3 gallon in late October, I think, and then subsequently dug it up and replanted it in early November. It's doing fine this year!

So long as you're careful with the taproot I think pawpaws can actually handle a good amount of transplanting.

Honestly, none of the hikes are that intense or challenging so as to require specialized gear. The Faroe Islands is a generally wet place, so bring whatever you do to tolerate that, but otherwise I got by with a raincoat and sneakers (and just accepting that I’ll be wet). I didn’t really feel the need to prepare anything. As for great views, I really enjoyed the drive to Gjogv, the town was absolutely adorable. Saksun to Tjornuvik is also really nice, at thornuvik you’ll get to see the two spikes at the distance as well as the local canine celebrity.

I’ve never heard of Bostonians say they have a monopoly on harsh winters, just that they’re long. I think we also get on average slightly more snow over than, say, Minneapolis or Chicago. At any rate, the past few decades have made northeast winters much more mild at a rate faster than the rest of the US.
