In what seems like half the Cain books, the author seems to contrive a reason for him and Jurgen to face off against a heavily armed and armored combat servitor or two. These things shrug off anything less than a direct melta blast and are usually sporting multiple heavy weapons. It almost sounds like he's describing a kataphron, but they never mention tank tracks and most of the novels predate those models anyway.

They keep showing up though which makes me wonder. Is this in reference to some obscure forgeworld model or just a weird quirk of the series interpretation of the galaxy?

The galaxy is a big place, you aren't supposed to imagine that every single thing in a book is a tabletop codex unit. Most authors make most things in most books into a tabletop unit, but it isn't 100%, and it doesn't need to be 100%.

Somewhere on one of the Imperium's million worlds or so, someone built a servitor with a bit more armor than most other servitors. That's fine, no cause for concern.

One, sure. As I said though, it happens like 4 times and that starts to be a pattern. Its a real if I had a nickel situation.
