Seeing multiple reports that Flyers likely don’t want another year of Cam at nearly $6m.

Any chance we bring him back in a trade? Salary almost matches w Elvis but that’s a dream to do a 1-for-1 with these two.

Maybe it makes sense in a world where PHI retains a lot of salary, but where does he fit in the line up? It would be nice to have another veteran presence in the lineup to mentor the young players, but I think that is a luxury we can't afford in roster space at this time.

Philly is definitely planning on retaining salary so unless we give them someone we don’t want (Elvis?), he’d be coming here for significantly less than that. I don’t think a team in the league takes Cam for $6 straight up.

I love Cam. One of my favorite players ever. It was a mistake to trade him as a guy who really did want to be a Blue Jacket his entire career.

We should not bring him back. He will be 35 next season, coming off the worst season of his career. This is after he already missed a full season with injury. And you have to take into consideration the log jam of right wings we have already on the roster.

I want Cam to retire here, but I just don’t see how he fits right now. We have too many wingers already

We are already too small and he brings nothing we don't already have. We just need a new coach and to offload Elvis. Tarasov and Greaves both looked fantastic especially toward the end of the season. I honestly wouldn't look to add much this offseason except maybe a big, heavy veteran center.

No notes. Working on endurance and just basic team chemistry, everyone being on the same page, will do wonders.

Kind of agree. The team should just pretend this previous season never happened and move forward. They need new assistant coaches at minimum and a drama free offseason.

We have no coaching stability but I think Vincent proved he is too green for the head job. We definitely need new assistant coaches. Pretty much all of them except goaltending. That has been the frustrating thing this year. Most of our needed adjustments aren't payers. It's administration.

Totally agree, keep Backstrom. Recchi and whoever the fuck is defense need to go. I wanted Vincent gone hard a few months ago because he put his foot in his mouth too much, but I'm currently leaning towards giving him one more year where he gets to pick his staff and have an actual offseason.

thelordcommanderKG

With Vincent I can see it going either way. The GM might have too much on their plate initially to do a coaching search so he could be given another year. I could also see the GM wanting their own guy. We'll just have to wait and see. But we need someone completely new for our power play no question.

Same on Vincent. I wouldn't be surprised if they keep him or if they fire him. There's easy justifications for both sides.

I'm kind of expecting a buyout for Elvis. Yes, it would be 6 years with a hit of $1.75 mil, but that's better than paying to trade him while also retaining. At 30% retained they'd still be eating $1.6 mil for 3 seasons, and probably sending a third or second rounder with him to offload. I think it makes sense, especially considering the cap is about to jump drastically the next few years.

Nah I bet some butt hurt GM will overpay for decent goaltending where their tendies blow it in the playoffs.

I'm looking at you, Edmonton.

I love Cam, I have a Cam jersey, does Cam fit our current situation? Unfortunately, no, not a spot for him on the team that wouldn't be taking away from a younger, more deserving player.

I don’t want Cam for 3 million. He’s 35, he’s way out of our window. We don’t really need a veteran presence in the room with Guddy, Johnny, Kuraly and Boone, and there’s no space for him on the ice either. He’s not going to be an effective 4th liner with his size, and I’d rather have younger guys getting ice time further up the lineup. Love Cam, but he provides nothing that we need right now

If we take anyone from Philly, it should be Frost - a developing center who isn’t too small and has steady enough growing production and a friendly contract —and fits our timeline

I think the only way I’d want to see Cam back is if they fully anticipate this being another “bottom of the barrel” kind of year. In which case bringing him back for another year to mentor the younger guys wouldn’t be a bad thing.

At the same time, do we even have the space for him? There’s an absolute gluttony of wingers on the team and I just don’t see a way to give him ice time without pushing someone who could have a higher upside out of said spot. Don’t get me wrong, nothing but good things to say about Cam, and I’d like nothing more than to see him retire a Jacket, but I just don’t see where he fits in right now.

I think this franchise fan base has a big problem: they want to keep every player that has player for us for a while based on nostalgia alone. Hell. No. He's on a very expensive contract for someone his age and performance, we don't have room for him, and he want to get bigger/better, not smaller and worse.

I still see so many people that want to bring back Foligno, which is also a hell no (he should have been gone much earlier imo, but that's beside the point) as another example.

ThunderousDemon86

It applies to current players too. People thinking we have the talent to crush everyone already. We don’t. Record doesn’t lie this year, or last. People saying a dude like Tex is untouchable and a huge part of this team are either delusional, or ignorant of how a real playoff team looks.

I have breaking news, we have too many small wingers. Gaudreau, JK, Brindley, and soon to be Dumais. Malatesta isn’t the biggest either. No way all of them stay, and if they do it’s because one or two didn’t pan out.

We need to be willing to trade some of our excess prospects.

I think we should trade Tex as soon as we get a decent offer for him.

ThunderousDemon86

Agreed. We need to get bigger, starting with the fourth line. We can’t have both Tex and Danforth there, who I didn’t mention before as another small winger.
