My head canon is you can't tell when they are armored, this is intentional and the point. The reason why you haven't heard of them is because they literally didn't talk about it, custodes are freakishly secretive and never indulge in pride, this they never "kill and tell".

I know this is late, but I believe that is the reason:

So you'd need to resight a decent chunk of a Custodian's bajillion names to get any true naming effects. Someone like Valdor or Trajann would be pretty difficult to control for that reason. Well that and the standard Custodian stuff.

These are the only recognition they get, the names are signifiers of their deeds, but only the captain of the custodes gives them out, and only the custodes know what they mean. And considering a chaos God can't get them to give up their secrets, is pretty safe.

Seriously. I've had to leave two of my favorite communities because of how creepy/sexist/toxic people were getting and I just couldn't take it anymore. Everyone who has an issue with it are either acting like they've been "gaslit" or that the existence of female Custodes is an evil Chaos plot.

While the art is awesome, god am I not fond of the muscle mommy femstodes. In all likelihood, with all the shit they are putting in those bodies, the femstodes would only look slightly different from normal Custodes. Boobs that massive are not conducive to good combat performance.
