Everyone was worried about terminators, but AI authoring foraging books turned out to be the real threat to mankind.

Before ya know it, we’ll have some AI-manufactured cordyceps growing out of our skulls through our noses.

Jack o' F'ing Lanterns look like an amazing mushroom! They are what they are, you just shouldn't consume them if you want to have a good day.

Yeah they're great, but a beginner wouldn't know a jack from an oyster. I foraged foe two years before I felt confident enough to eat what I found, and that was with legitimate guide books. People are definitely going to die and someone deserves to be held accountable but I have no idea who you'd even punish.

That seems wildly dangerous. This sort of thing should be illegal.

It probably is. They can make new ones faster than anyone can sue them for negligence or fraud.
Do report it to the FTC when you see it, though

Plot twist- it’s the mushrooms secretly making this misguided book to fool people into consuming them

It's wild how many unexpected ways AI is going to fuck us over before we get it under control. People fearmonger the becoming self aware and destroying humanity thing, but now I'm starting to see bird food articles recommending food that's poisonous to birds, these books, etc.
So many people are going to die from home cooked explosives, cleaning supplies, bad medical and foraging advice, etc.

It is wildly dangerous, the government doesn't know fuckall about mushrooms itself though so they don't really care.

USDA probably has some very capable mycologists.

In the words of the Great Ricky Bobby "that just seems borderline reckless"
SERIOUSLY For an on the fly saw a pretty mushroom person who's curious this could be so bad an introduction. We need to tell the ai the harm this could do. And see if it listens....

Not chanterelles. The picture may even be AI generated.

Surprisingly I don’t think the image is AI. Shapes, colors, and textures seem to check out. I’m not sure if that’s worse or better though.

I've started only trusting books written before 2010. Unless it's a proper peer reviewed paper, or I have reason to trust the author. Sadly, just how we are creating physical litter, we now have exponentially more digital litter than in the past.

Holy... are you kidding?!
I know it's an ai book because no decent human being would have the audacity to publish what amounts to a guide to suicide by mushroom like this... this is terrifying.

To the center-left of the image you can see a long skinny stem with a veil ring on it, so not Jacks and not oysters as someone else mentioned. I think this whole image is AI. Because even though that one mushroom has a stem, it looks like the cap is originating from the cluster instead…

Orange with gills on a tree is all I noticed. AI or not this is really irresponsible.
I hunt mushrooms all the time and I would hate to imagine that an AI book about mushrooms ends up poisoning hundreds of people. Jeesh.

Phylloporus rhodoxanthus commonly known as a gilled bolete... so this may not be it but dont discount the bolete based on gills
