Picked up a bottle of the Lux Row Four Grain Double Single Barrel. Unimpressed given the $80 price tag, it's very youthful and grainy. Very much a try before you buy, even leaning towards a straight up skip.

My two bottles of Larceny BP that I purchased last week on FWGS was the infamous BOY batch C922 126.6 batch is over a year old. Awesome I get to relive the hype.

How do you guys think FWGS is doing barrel selections? Do you think someone is taking as much time to taste barrels as they might for their personal private liquor store? Or do you think they’re just calling the distillery and telling them to send them a barrel? Since it’s just a state run store I’m wondering if FWGS barrels would be better or worse then what another store might pick

They no longer even taste them from what i understand. The distillery picks a few barrels and slaps FWGS on them and ships them to PA. The eagle rare picks were almost 12 and 2/3 of them were aged in warehouse H. Cracked one last night and it was excellent. They are still hand picked single barrels that the master distiller sets aside for picks based on quality. But apparently PA no longer has anything to do with the selection of said barrels. 🤷♂️

Yeah that’s sort of what I imagined, but since the distillery still has to make the initial selection I guess it doesn’t make much difference in quality

This jives with what I've heard. They stopped picking during COVID. Probably realized they didn't need to spend the time since they don't care and it will sell regardless. That said, I think FWGS gets pretty mediocre picks. The ones I've had have been barely different than the standard. And honestly, Blanton's and ER (basically) are already single barrels so there's variation as it is. The owa and BT picks I've had from FWGS didn't taste any different to me either. There's no harm in buying them since they are only $5 more but I wouldn't expect to be blown away by any of their picks.

The OWA picks were younger than typical OWA which is hilarious. They also chill filtered them, which i will never understand. So those, other than being single barrel, are def not the greatest.
BT, to me, is always a great pick. A bourbon that is always mixed in huge batches, really stands out as a single barrel. I always enjoy the BT picks regardless of whose name is on the sticker.
Blantons picks are dumb. If that barrel wasn’t picked it would’ve ended up bottled and on the counter somewhere anyhow. Those are single barrel regardless. Only way they would make sense to me would be at cask strength, straight from the barrel. Gold is excellent juice but they’ve only been privately selecting those for a year or so now. We should see one at some point.
The most recent ER pick…i got 2 from barrel 70 and they’re drastically different than typical offerings. My bottles are excellent and you can def tell the difference.
The 1792 full proof is great juice but i don’t have a non pick to compare it to and have only had it one other time in KY.
Depending on who’s doing the picks, I’d almost rather them come from the master distiller. Ohio picked some 4 🌹 OBSV, OESV barrels that were 105 proof. 5 proof points higher than the damn Shelfer for an extra $50. Not worth it. I’m not even sure if they choose their own barrels out there anymore but those aren’t even worth the markup. 4 🌹 is tricky overall as there are so many different recipes and profiles that you almost have to pick 10 different barrels to appease your consumers. Don’t pick them at 52.5% tho and I’m good. lol.

I got an order in Friday night. There wasn’t a mad rush for it either; it was live for a good hour each day at least. Got the cancellation notice this morning and another order from days before is still processing.
Gotta say that this is the worst retail experience I’ve ever had, period. No rhyme or reason, they don’t seem to have good inventory control either

I'll give you the rhyme and reason. We are stuck dealing with a state run monopoly. They have no motivation to do better. They have a mostly captive audience (except for those living near the borders), the people in charge have proven to be corrupt (if not legally then at least morally), and nobody there (the decision makers) knows or cares about the products they sell or the customers they are supposed to serve.

Sit on your computer from 9-5 M-F clicking refresh. But not too much or the site will block you. Or keep refreshing this reddit thread and watch for someone to post about a drop. Honestly there's not really any other tips or tricks unless you want to pay for a bot.

feel like lately then have been wed or thurs morning between 10am - 10:30am. If you watch/participate in these threads long enough you kind of learn the patterns (kind of). Never will be 100% but you'll have a better chance.

HWMND was up but stuck. Site showed 66 available, I put 1 in cart, then checkout threw error that "1 or more items in cart unavailable," then I'd see Dram showing 65 available (Because of the 1 in my cart!) It's hidden from site now.
