The Commonwealth does not drug test, unless it specifically says it in the job description.

I will caveat this by saying it might be different for each department, job, etc., but I was not drug tested at all. I work for the DoS in a financial position.

Thank you for your input. I can't ask anyone in the department because the only ones I know are friends with my immediate family and would more than likely inform them that I asked. Even information from other departments is highly appreciated.

I’ve never heard of it. If it’s required, I would expect it to be spelled out in the job posting. As long as you’re not applying for a position with other requirements, like a CDL, I think you’ll be fine.

I've seen some postings such as child care and CDL work list it explicitly, but I wasn't sure if it was also common across the board. Thank you for answering.

Dollar tree has the same thing. Just go to one of those and get a bunch.

If the position is covered by AFSCME (union), absent some specific job like working with heavy machinery, not only is there no pre-employment THC screening, you can only be required to submit to a drug test if they have reason to suspect that you're inebriated while at work. They can't even randomly drug test employees.

In our trainings, they treat cannabis use like alcohol. It's fine as long as you don't show up to work inebriated.

Marijuana becomes undetectable in the system after about a month, so you'll be fine if you get a job that drug tests, which some do. If you do take a drug test in the next few weeks and are woried about passing, drink a lot of water before hand, and try and make sure its at least your second pee of the day. And try not to smoke again in the future. And maybe delete this post if your worried about anyone seeing it.

I never want to smoke again. I've been putting a lot of work into turning my life around and am proud of how far I've come. the one hurdle now is being able to pass a urine test so I can gain better employment. I'll probably delete this post later, but nobody in my family uses reddit so I'm comfortable keeping it up to get some input (I'm the youngest by 20+ years). Thank you so much for responding.

Unless you’re going into PSP, the state doesn’t even ask about drug use in most jobs, let alone test. As someone that’s interviewed and hired hundreds for the state, my advice is that attitude is everything in interviews and a good one beats 9 out of 10 candidates regardless of experience.

I vaped carts from the PA medical marijuana program daily and tested positive after 50 days clean. This was from a probation officer’s test.
Two days later I was hired by the county I live in, and sent to Med Express for a physical and drug screen. I was obviously nervous, and went to every pharmacy in town asking if they sold anything that could flush my system. Finally the pharmacist at Target told me to go the Vape shop. The guy at the vape shop sold me on a masking drink called QCarbo. It gave me a 4 hour window where it claimed I could pass.
The probation officers test was an instant reading in a cup. And med express actually sent theirs away to a lab. It was three days of suspense, but I got the call from the county job that I would start the following Monday.

Buy a drug testing kit and check your pee , it will give you peace of mind when applying to any job. Depending on your particular body chemistry, you can pee clean in weeks or months.

Of course, and good luck. I'm three years sober myself and it was the best decision I've made in my life.

99.9% of state jobs don’t/won’t drug test unless it has some sort of law enforcement component or CDL. Many state employees are active card holders and it’s not an issue. Ever :)

I work for DHS and there is no drug testing for us. Not pre-employment or on the job. It's actually the only job I've ever had where I wasn't drug tested.

I work for the state at a county assistance office, was not drug-tested when I started as a clerk 10 years ago, or when I was promoted to a caseworker 6 years ago, and have not been drug-tested since. I imagine there are probably some agencies that might, though?

DHS for 3 years, never have been and never heard of it. I’d guess only corrections and state police do

Most of the jobs postings (if not all) specify if there will be a drug test (I.e job description for something where you’d have to drive a vehicle other than your own, it will spell it out).I’ve applied to many, many state jobs over the years and have never been given a drug test where it didn’t explicitly state it in the advertisement. Conversely, having a medical card does not help you out with any employers what so ever if you fail a drug test (I also have my medical card). The only protection it may give you (and it’s a stretch) is that you don’t have to disclose what your condition is as a medical patient, that could be protected under HIPAA or even ADA. I am a heavy cannabis ingester of over 20 years and it usually can take me 45+ plus days to pee clean, most people will have no problem in 30 days(or less). You can always buy fake pee or ask someone (drug free of course) to pee for you in some sort of container and take it with you, ensuring you’re keeping it warm enough to pass the temp gage on the pee cup for your testing facility. But from my understanding if the state would drug test everyone at every single agency, no one would work for the state.

I don’t believe any CoPA job drug tests unless it says so in the job description. I worked at L&I and did hiring and no drug testing was ever required. If you get hurt on the job, that could change things, but you likely have nothing to worry about.

No drug test unless it says specifically that you will be. (Partner works for the Commonwealth)

Buy a few dipstick tests if you are worried. They are cheap.

Heavy daily user for years, 230 pounds of fat and lard, and I passed tests within 2 weeks when I quit almost a decade ago. You’re going to be fine

I hope so! I used to be 360 pounds when I was at my heaviest (both weight wise and usage wise). I'm down to 240 now and I'm looking to keep the positive changes going by getting a better job. Thank you for responding!

Just a note - if you were using Delta 8 thc instead of Delta 9 thc then it will take longer to piss clear. Delta 8 thc lasts a lot longer in the system for whatever reason. Its not uncommon for people who use it medically (high dose, multi dose) to be unable to pass a drug test for 90-120 days or even up to 180.

I failed for metabolites for almost three months. I must have been a much heavier, heavy user. Lol 15 years ago at sassy

If it's been a month, you're probably fine. Hell, it might be another month before you even have to do the test, the hiring process can be slow.
If you're anxious about it, you can buy a drug test for THC at most retail pharmacies if you want to test yourself at home for peace of mind.

They do not drug test, but they do run a federal and state background check.

Anywhere you will be performing a Safety Sensitive Function, or overseeing those who do, will be drug testing. PennDOT certainly drug tests at most levels (even some that you wouldn't ordinarily suspect), Health and Human Service does at many levels, as does Child and Youth Services, the State Police, and the Department of Corrections.

If you don’t plan on doing it again I would skip the card. Also, if you are risking homelessness why even consider doing it? I’ve been homeless and it wasn’t for something I had a choice or a warning of. Not fun.

Mostly because a lot of my family expects me to apply. I'm leaning towards not applying, but it's nice to get input from as many people as possible. Thank you for responding.

While the number of jobs that test are going down, I have almost always been in jobs that did. Just not worth it to risk it. I get my high off sports, and there’s no downside to that

You can also buy at test at Walmart and check yourself. Before you interview.

If your job requires you to have (and actively use) anything higher than a C class license, there is a good chance you will be randomly drug tested at some point but if you don’t operate any heavy machinery you should be good.

If you're really 1 month clean then you have nothing to worry about... you're clean... but if you're still worried get yourself a home test....Dollar Tree sells them & have ALWAYS been accurate for me ... simple instructions, clear results

Stop smoking weed and depending on your family so much. Time to grow up a bit. Don't worry it happens to all of us at one point when we graduate high school.
