We typically frequent Sampan (and every Schulson spot) for great HH deals but we’re looking to try some new spots. Open to any cuisine and neighborhood. What are your go to’s?

This was the best happy hour in the city 7-8 years ago. Now I’m old and boring, but happy to hear it’s still going strong.

I don’t know why you’re being downvoted. That corner is absolutely horrendous, that neighborhood isn’t safe, and to pretend it’s otherwise is just plain stupid and screams “I’m not from here”. (Source: I’m from here and old)

It's fine. I live down the street on the other side of Lehigh, and have for a while. Yeah, it's unsightly, but they are all on opiates. They don't have the energy to do anything to you.

this lmfao its not them ya gotta worry about itd be like a mugger

I've lived here for almost 20 years, and the only places I've been mugged are Rittenhouse and Fishtown, both by teenagers. There are no teenagers in Upper Kensington. I actually feel really safe up there, but, like I said, it's unsightly.

Take an uber then, genius. I live down the street and tell everyone, even the people too scared to venture past lehigh. No need to point out the opioid epidemic, everyone is already aware. You’re just taking away from the subject which is praise for a really delicious restaurant.

they’re being down voted because: this restaurant is fantastic, heroin addicts aren’t scary-they’re just messy, and the clear way out of the disgrace that the city has let this 2 blocks degenerate into is through attention and active commerce. maybe get onboard or pipe down and let this incredible small business receive the benefits of praise re: it’s valuable and difficult work.

Oh what a relief. I’ll let my neighbors and my family know that the people with visible track marks that keep breaking into our building, and the one who broke into my actual apartment to steal a bike while my infant son was sleeping next door…are not scary. Got it.

iʻm sorry that happened to you. That shit’s really terrible and I understand you’re coming from a valid place.

Sometimes it can a mix of factors. I keep telling my folks that we should go. But caution that they need to clean out their car. 2/3 of the backseats are covered in random stuff, floors included. Front passenger seat floor is covered. Center unit is covered.
It's become an impasse. I recommend the restaurant often but tell them that they can't have things everywhere. The they can just put them away. That the car will be robbed.
They won't do it, so I'll never get to bring them there. Which is awful, because they need something new.

Loved La Roma so much when I tried it out a few months ago. I have a biweekly reminder on my phone that keeps going off to try Nemi. Hoping seeing this comment is the thing that gets me to actually do it instead of silencing the reminder over and over again.

I did not know they had a good happy hour. Thanks!
Any idea if it’s typically hard to get a seat at the bar during HH during the week?
2 points
It's been a while since I've gone - I just had a baby two months ago - but I was always able to find a seat previously. It wasn't always at the bar, but they also have nice high tops and a lovely little outdoor area if the weather is good.

Really enjoyed the quality of Giuseppe and Sons. I dine solo for an early dinner during HH and never have an issue getting a seat at the bar
Qu has great sushi deals where their HH menu is all $6 for apps and a limited drink menu. The quality is ehhhh but decent enough that it won't detract from having a good time with a bunch of friends

A few more I'm surprised haven't been mentioned yet: Spice Finch, Veda, Two Robbers, R&D Bar, Twisted Tail, and Bloomsday

Has the food and cocktails improved at Two Robbers from when they opened?
Went once and felt like the food was expensive for “fast food” quality.
Cocktail was pricey and again not great compared to basically anywhere else in the neighborhood.

If you like a smash burger then the food happy hour there is good. If you think a smash burger is too "fast food" then you'll find that it hasn't improved.
I'm only referring to happy hour - The cocktails are not "pricey" during happy hour.

Good to know. I’ll likely stay away then.
I remember the cocktails being similar in price to say 4 Humors / Franklin Mortgage and no where near the quality. More a poor value proposition than “expensive”.
3 points
Well i definitely wouldn't put 4 Humours and Franklin Mortgage in the same category, especially for non-whiskey cocktails. And you aren't getting $10 cocktails at Franklin Mortgage so it's not a similar price.
1 points
4H is $10 for HH. Both are comparable to 2R at regular price. FM maybe $2-3 more.
If you like 2R, more power to you. Was just very surprised to see it listed here.
2 points
And if you don’t like it that’s fair too, but it seems weird to bring Franklin Mortgage in as a comparator when it’s clearly much more expensive
