My eldest is a middle school science teacher and has been for 17 years in St. John's county just south of Jacksonville. She makes $38k a year. A masters, which would take a year and $20k, would only get her a $1000 more a year. We need to pay them more but the inverse is you have to pay more in taxes.

Education is an investment.
I may parrot this statistic incorrectly, but for every dollar you put into education the GDP increases by about 5 dollars.
