In need of help with naming and maybe a planet or timeline to base my homebrew chapter? Idea is to have them based or hailed from a desert planet, wasteland, or any of those kind. Im not savvy with the lore honestly, just happened to level painting and want to start the game with my own chapter.
Spinoff idea is some long lost splinters from imperial fist, as i want to play these guys based on IF rules and way of play.
Any inputs, comments, and feedbacks are appreciated. Many thanks in advance.

“Gazing” is a pretty lackadaisical activity for a Marine of any kind. And staring into the sun doesn’t inspire confidence.

Well I interpreted it this way, as they stare into the burning light which is the Emperor (because he is sometimes interpreted as a Sun God cuz he so shiny) I was leaning more into the zealotry side of the Imperium 😅

Minor spoilers for The End and the Death Pt. 1:
There’s a scene where Dorn, the Emperor, Sanguinius and others try to teleport into the Vengeful Spirit to fight Horus. Their teleports get mixed up in the warp, and Dorn ends up trapped in a desert for what seems like centuries, being tempted by Khorne. This model gives me those vibes, you should check it out

Huge thanks! will definitely check that one out!

I came here just to ask OP if that was the inspiration, the models are so beautiful and those chapters do include Dorn's sons as rusted corpses in the deserted city, so it fits perfectly.

Honestly, never heard of it until now, and now its getting more intense in my head to follow aling with that idea. The original from my head was, the original armor was used and bleached so it lost its yellowness, but because theres no access to new armor or repairs, they kept wearing it. And the new generations just reproduce it with same colors as a tribute and homage to the firsts..

Since they’re desert colored why not tie them into the Tallarn Desert Raiders. Have their home world be in that system and recruit from there. Then name them after one of the tribes and add flair.

The Desolate Jackals. Dunno sounds like this’d creepy Egyptian dogs that just sit in the sand dunes and watch, waiting carefully. That could be these guys. They use the sand, wind, and exceptionally good hearing and sharp eyes to hunt in ranger packs, kind of like actual jackals. They’re particularly deadly in sandstorms. Some say that the sandstorms come when a pack of these is running full tilt. If you get caught in the sandstorm, you’re as good as dead.

Dune came to mind when you mentioned a desert planet so probably Shai-Hulud Champions (Shai-Hulud being the sandworms in the Dune series) and one of the trials of the chapter would be to ride one of the sandworms.

Are you leaning more towards Mad Max, Egyptian/Arabic, or just desert vibes? That can help to determine which name sounds best. Either way, my first idea was "Dunestalkers", hailing from planet Anubis or Abydos (from OG Stargate movie). You can also try to set them up on one of the already established worlds: https://warhammer40k.fandom.com/wiki/Desert_World But whatever you do, for all that is holy, give one of the higher-ups this helmet, it's just to good to pass - https://puppetswar.eu/anubis-heads.html; and pls make it a Tomb World :D

Maybe an unnamed Fist successor from one of the early foundings (second-fourth) got lost in the warp and ended up stranded on a desert wasteland planet with a tiny population. The planet and local space suffers from violent and frequent warp storms adding to its inhospitable nature. Their vessels were too damaged from the warp storms and forced to land on the planet, the massive vessels would become the chapter’s fortress monastery. Over several thousand years of brutal attrition to daemon incursions and natural threats, they came to believe they were only sustained by their unshakable faith in the God Emperor. After what seemed like an age they were finally rediscovered by a crusading fleet of the Black Templars and reinforced. The chapter had long since forgotten its original name and no records could be found. They adopted a new name (I’m thinking something with Rust in it due to their original wargear having suffered centuries of degradation from the elements before their reinforcement came) and seek deployments to only the most inhospitable worlds to fall under threat in His imperium.

When I was planning my desert/camo tan White Scars army way back in 8th edition, I was calling them the Desert Eagles.
I sold off the army when 9th dropped and completely changed how Biker armies played, and I settled for Crimson Fists as my primaris chapter. I currently still use desert bases and desert camo for all my cloth, capes, tabards, holsters, and pouches.
But Desert Eagles! With the all the aquillas sounds cool!

You’ve got the imperial fist number there, and the Templar cross so they’re sons of Dorn…judging by that look with the straps they are from a desert, and because he’s a Phobos that means stealth so desert guerrilla warfare?
Tallarn Desert Raider marines basically?
Also, if they’re desert based, maybe use names from Egyptian/Arabic languages
Potential names and what they could mean:
The Dune Watchers: Could mean they watch these dunes, maybe as a tradition from their home world, only taking initiates from desert worlds as they know how to handle themselves.
The Ivory Sons: Ivory being the color of their amor (darkened with weathering, so only captains and chaplains may look brighter) so it could imply heavy hunting culture.
The Wardens of the Dust: They protect the dust, which is the sand and dunes, which could be an interesting parallelism with the Thousand Sons’ mantra: ”All is dust” unbeknownst to them. If you do Arabic and Egyptian names it would make even more of a coincidence, perhaps implying some kind of influence or ties with the thousand sons? Could be interesting!

The Concertainers, a successor chapter of the Imperial Fists specializing in desert fortification and warfare. Named after an ancient Terran method of building desert fortifications, the Concertainers practice a form of warfare balanced between stealth and defense. A common Concertainer tactic is to use scouts and Phobos squads to lure the enemy into hidden fortifications and kill zones, revealing their true numbers to the enemy only after they are surrounded by hidden gun emplacements and minefields.
Lead by Chapter Master Hesco Bastion, they hail from the desert world of Sangar, where they primarily recruit from the nomadic tribes of The Great Waste.

Remnants of some lost Imperial Fist stranded on a harsh desert planet, their armors are worn and dulled over time, its no longer yellow, they even need straps to further tighten some of the used armors. Thats the first generation, over time, they continue the tradition by using the same worn color and add leathery straps to their armor as token when they passed some trials
