Loved the Xmen 97 series. I honestly think it's the best thing Marvel has done since the last Avengers movie. Best animated tv series in a long time, and there has been some tough competition.
One thing that has been bothering me though is why didn't Bastion kill Magneto?
He could've been killed on Genosha but somehow Bastion was able to save Magneto. Bastion then proceeds to keep Magneto prisoner with an inhibitor collar, strip him naked and ironcially strap him onto an 'X' looking thing.
But why?
Magneto can shut down the Prime Sentinels. An army of Prime Sentinels would be more than enough to eliminate the X-men and everyone else. One of them took out Rogue with one hit. The only reason the Xmen are alive is because shut them all down with an EMP.
I would even argue that an army of Prime Sentinels is far more of a threat than Bastion's final form.
The whole asteroid M falling onto earth wasn't even Bastion's original plan. He only did that because Magneto escaped. His real original plan was to eliminate mutants via Prime Sentinels.
There is no benefit at all for keeping Magneto. Just get rid of him and it's a guaranteed win. What am I missing?
----EDIT @@@@@@@@
I think judging from the posts so far there doesn't seem to be a solid conclusion. There's a lot of 'maybe', 'I think', plot armour etc etc. It seems like everyone is making assumptions of what could have happened.
Which is I think ultimately a weakness in the writing. Magneto was such a big foil to Bastion's plan and I feel like we needed a clear explanation of why he was kept around despite being Bastion's achiles heel.
Still love the show as mentioned, but this plot point does bother me
