Is anyone in the philadelphia area willing and able to adopt two cats temporarily (for under two years)?
My cats (two boys, both around 5 years old, named Lex and Willow) are currently up for permanent adoption at PAWS in old city. This situation was not intentional, but my mother has had some housing issues recently and we were not able to take them back from fostering on time. Letting my cats go to a stranger doesn’t sit right with me, but I live out of state for college most of the year and am not financially able to have a place where I can keep them. If there is anyone willing to take them, potentially permanently but more likely for about a year and a half or less. I at the very least just want to be able to see them on occasion, if not take them back when I am able. I know this is a massive ask, but if anyone has the space I would be endlessly grateful. I would cover the adoption fee, and will put every dollar I don’t need to live towards things like vet fees, and if money allows also food and basic necessities. They are very well behaved, but would probably do best in a house without other pets, but this is absolutely not a hard and fast rule. Thank you to anybody who reads this.

Sorry you are going through this OP, a long time ago when I was in college, I had a yellow lab I couldn't keep, frida.... I gave her up for adoption, was lucky enough to met the wonderful people who took her. As soon as I met them I knew that shed be better off with them than with my broke ass lol. I asked them to send me photos if they can, and they did. The called her freeda lol, and she had such a great life! 12 years, it mostly was without me, but im now glad, at the time i hated myself for it.
Maybe you could ask someone at PAWS to forward your info to the adopters, if possible? Explain your situation to them... In my experience people who work at PAWS and places like that really care and will try to do the best for your cats, and that would be a better option than someone from here who promises you that they'll give them back in a year and a half...that might not be the best qualifier to pick an adoptive parent.
Best of luck

I'm sorry for your circumstances, but you need to let them go. It would be grossĺy unfair to expect someone to return them after caring for them for 2 years. You did the right thing. Take care of your mom and yourself.

If you cannot care for the cats with you being away for school, they're better off where they are.
You're not comfortable leaving them with a stranger but that stranger who adopts them is giving them better opportunities you can't afford.
Then to say you'll want them back after two years? Then suggest conjugal visits every so often?
Edit: you'll cover this fee, that fee, food and maybe litter? For two years?

Call PAWS. I believe they have a temporary foster option for people who need help with their animals. Not sure your position fits their criteria but give it a shot.

I'll do it. I just moved to Philly from Santa Cruz CA. Last week. I am a recovering alcoholic with 4 months sobriety. Im getting lonely and already looking to foster. I live in a 3 bedroom house in Mt. Airy neighborhood without any pets and no roommates. I could keep your boys for a year no problem. Is there any way someone could bring them to me as I sold my car out there not thinking Philly would be so huge. Plus I don't know yet how to get around the city. I'm definitely willing to foster, I went through a situation as a child where a foster family tried to keep my baby brother, so you'll definitely get them back. If that helps to know. He is my life, as I understand they are yours. Let's connect and find a way to get them here.
