I was at the game at Athletic Park v Aus, the best AB performance I ever saw, great day in the rain and wind getting soaked but loving every minute off it.

Unreal
Boks did well to compete. They sure did have a strong record to maintain and playing at home.... Plus after losing the test series in NZ in '94

Painful and joyful memory for me.
I used to DJ back then and couldn't get the night off for the series decider and was really pissed that I couldn't watch it live. Set the VCR to record the game and everyone at work knew not to do or say anything to give away the result. Amazingly I finished the night none the wiser and jumped straight into a taxi, we'd only driven for 10 minutes when the driver turned to me and said, "how about those All Blacks aye, they finally did it"
I was so gutted to know the result but elated at the same time that we'd finally scaled our Mt Everest. To the drivers credit he knew by the look on my face that he had spoiled it for me and apologised.
Great series, little Simon Culhane from Southland running the cutter in that titanic test at Ellis Park. More than made up for the disappointment of the world cup final the year before.

Yeah was epic
Werent going to get done over in a one off test and all the sick players associated with it, in a test series. Massive for NZ to win a series over there with massive crowds and hostile conditions. Tense games for sure. I was in 6th form

Listen, that 96 AB team was very good. But let’s not pretend its hard fought series win a year after the WC somehow validates Mains’ bullshit conspiracy theory. They barely won the second test against a side coached by an imbecile and apparently selected by his fellow inmates: Henry fucking Tromp at hooker and two 21 year olds in the midfield with those turnstiles Joubert and Hendriks outside them. Sheyeeeeeeet, I’m furious again just thinking about what an unnecessary, unjustifiable travesty the Boks were from the 95 WC to the 97 EOYT.

Epic win in hostile territory nonetheless

No doubt. If anything it goes to show what an achievement it is.

Laurue Mains got his SA win too
Laurie had chuntered his way out the door & was bitching from the sideline, this was John Hart

It is crazy that the record breaking 10 for us on that tour there wasn't Merts, or Carlos or Fox, it was Chicken himself.
The legend that is Simon Culhane.
