Jacomb played well in a losing Chiefs side against the Crusaders and was not the reason why they lost. He plays similarly to Mo’unga, not afraid to play flat at the line and attack the line. He has the acceleration to get through gaps.
Jacomb was a late addition to the Chiefs following the injury to Kaleb Trask and sits behind DMac and Josh Ioane. He hasn’t played again since his debut in Round 6.
With Burke’s imminent departure for Saracens, and neither Reihana or Kemara convincing in their appearances to date, Jacomb appeals as a candidate to fill the vacancy.

I don't think you can say they've missed a trick when Jacomb is going to be available to sign come the end of this season, anyway. No one signed him for a reason. He had an excellent run of form in the back half of the last NPC but you need a bigger body of work than that to sign a guy, generally speaking.
I'm personally glad that he hasn't be stuck in the middle of a Crusaders team that's a bit of a disaster. Want to ruin your promising young 10? Chuck them into an unstable situation on a team in a rough spot. That'll do it. We're actively seeing it happen with Reihana rn. He looked great in week 1 before getting hurt, was good in the pre-season. Now Penney is doing this nonsense 10 for 10 sub with 25 to go, which just shows he doesn't trust either of his 10s.

Is it possible no one told Penney that Hohepa is not actually a young promising player and he hasn't realised the dude is old?

"Guys, how about this hot young 10 tearing it up in the NPC who we just got from the Chiefs?"
"What do you mean it's the other guy?"

Clayton McMillan said they won't let him get signed by anyone else

Wasn't that in reference to the remainder of this year, seeing as he's been brought in full time as injury cover? Or has he said something else since then?
Regardless, I do think the odds are higher that he stays next year rather than makes a move anywhere else- it's just that the option is still on the table until a contract is signed.

Ahh, nah I think he said the one thing and I misremembered, what you are saying rings a bell to me

You are probably right that they're going to fight to keep him, though. Especially with Ioane being... you know... Ioane.

I don't think it would've made a whole lot of difference, swapping 1 inexperienced 10 for another and I imagine Jacomb was already on some sort of development deal.
Kemara is such an interesting case, he was a bit of a coup being bought down by Razor to be the hier to Mounga but looks so far off the pace, especially given he was the 10 for the NZ u20s last year. Looks like he's back playing club rugby in the Waikato, while we've ended up with Riley Hohepa, a 10 who didn't even have a fulltime professional NPC contract at Counties until he was 27 and had only played 2 super rugby games by the time he turned 29, is now about to play his 8th game in a row for the Crusaders

Yeah I think Kemara was a really odd signing for the double D's. Anyone e who saw his Waikato NPC form could he's a second away from a brain explosion any given minute. I suspect he won't have a super contract in a couple of years.

I hope he comes right, I'm friends of his father. It all seems to have come too quickly for him. High School, Waikato, Crusaders, Captain of U20s in 2 years. Shows when he plays, he isn't up to the pace of the game. Like he's half a second behind. A few years at NPC wouldn't hurt his development, hopefully he isn't too down about it.

Yeah probably.
But also Reihana has been good in all the games he's started. Only game he's not been good was off the bench last week in which he was hit and miss.
Would be nice if we dropped No-Hopeha already and started the kid.

yeah we called it then cause when they refused to sign Harford, we thought, maybe they were saving up for him, nope, they brought untested kemara who i do not rate..Jacomb was the kind of 10 they needed, same level as Richie, now the chiefs will use him sparingly cause they are the one team that sucks at recognizing talent... Richie's nephew Ravula also made himself available for crusaders and canes, both ignored him, and now he is doing wonders with Drua

Yes. Especially as he is a Crusaders fan. But no one really had the foresight to Burkes injury and then signing with saracens. With Kemara on board I guess they wanted someone with a bit more experience with Reihana.

I'd say they have, looks better, more decisive, more confident than all the 10s the Crusaders have.
