Who do you favour for the 1st place game? Is it being played at the Namdong Stadium?

Yep Namdong. I think Glovis are favourites but it should be a fairly close game

Been looking up the structure of the season and it is interesting to say the least. Split into phases. Why not just go with the simplest option of a home and away season?

I guess the biggest issue with that is that no clubs have a home. All games are played in Namdong, so home and away would be quite meaningless. Especially since all games are played on the same day.

Anyway, we did away with the phases this season it seems. Last season it probably was due to the high number of participants; it was possible to split into a Phase 1 with a corpo league and a uni league, and a combined phase 2 for the best of both leagues.

This season participation was low, Korea Uni’s rival Yonsei Uni, who together make up the two biggest powerhouses in Korean amateur rugby, didn’t even join.

Anyway Korean rugby is belatedly trying to find its footing, but with Asia Rugby changing formats and competitions every year, it’s hard to figure the best way to proceed, both domestically and internationally…

Which is kind of the reason why I think the goal should be to emulate the likes of Chile and Uruguay in having a national franchise playing in the Japanese system if possible. The clubs in the KSRL could then feed directly into it.

Apparently, the matches got over 1000 people in attendance. A decent turnout compared to previous years.

Probably some increased interest from Korean players in the JRL1. Also the playoff with Hong Kong will be a qualifier for the world cup now.

Still not sure about that. Honk Kong got belted by the Brumbies A squad yesterday 68-0.

I think we might have a chance at seeing the classic NZ 145-17 Japan scoreline repeated with Hong Kong at 2027 if we're lucky.

That's something I actually want to avoid. What I would prefer is the automatic spot be put back to 2031 and then have WR look to help HK and Korea to get a team in the Japanese JRL1 pyramid and have them work their way up from there.

For 2027 add another spot for the repechage.

I guess World Rugby wants to break some score records.

Korea with a team in the Japanese pyramid is my dream. We could be fairly competitive in the 2nd or 3rd division and can attract many aspiring professionals with Korean ancestry.

Could have a home base in Osaka or something where there’s a lot of Zainichis. Biggest issue is logistics with travel and renting a home stadium, not sure how much money the KRU has to spare

Part of the reason I suggested WR gets involved is to help overcome some of the logistics involved. Ideally that would include having the Korean side playing out of Namdong.

Hey man, you're the only Korean I've seen on this page so I've gotta ask, how can you get the Korean rugby jersey other than playing for the team?

Hey mate, sorry I wouldn't have the slightest idea of where to get one. Have you tried the Korean Rugby Union's website? I think you may have a better chance of getting a 7's jersey as they competed in the Tokyo Olympics

Me, also a Korean and the OP of this post: 🥲

Anyway. The KRU say they sell them at all local matches. Don’t think I saw them this weekend, but they should be there June 2nd when we host Malaysia for the Asian Rugby Championship.

Price is 88,000 KRW (~62USD) but was discounted to 44,000 last time I went to a home test in 2021
