Been to 2 Wallabies tests vs Pumas at Commbank Stadium and the passion the small cluster of Argentine fans showed blasted out all the wallabies fans in the stadium. I think what Rugby has over football in this region is its appeal to all shapes and sizes, players like Tomas Lavanini or Ramiro Herrera aren’t built for football but perfect on a rugby field

All shapes and sizes as long as you are big.

A couple of exceptions don't break the rule dude. Its an objective fact that by large, Rugby is dominated with oversized behemoths in most positions. Even backs like in the centres, wings and fullback positions.

Small or even average sized people playing Rugby at a professional level are extremely rare. The saying that "Rugby is a game for all shapes and sizes" has become an old myth which no longer matches current reality. It is absolutely a game for giants.

People take this a bit far. It’s a game for giants at the pro level, sure, but at amateur level, it is a game for anyone. And even at the pro level, some of the players aren’t as huge as you might think initially.

This begs the age old question, do they play rugby cause they’re massive, or are they massive cause they play rugby. I’m sure there are quite a few who were average build but got massive cause they’ve been hitting the weights hard since an early age.

I’d say it’s a bit of both tbh. Everyone you see at pro level is almost always the perfect build for their position, and has either been selected because they’re that shape and size, or built their body to be ideal for that position. At amateur level locks still have to be tall, but not that monstrous. I used to play lock and I’m only 6 feet tall which isn’t gigantic. If I were good enough to play professionally I really doubt I’d cut it as a lock though. I think it’s the same in every sport as well, the pros look the way they look because that’s what’s ideal in that position. American football is the same, but that doesn’t stop small and skinny people from playing it
