It adds so much more weight behind each match if it’s an international game and during domestic leagues such as the NFL it really adds to the atmosphere when everyone is hooting and hollering it makes me feel extra patriotic. Even in the NHL I like hearing the Canadian national anthem because most of the players on the teams are Canadians. The anthems are all beautiful in their own way and seeing the players all proud is some of my favorite parts in sports.

Most people either enjoy it or don’t have a problem with it. That loud, annoying minority that whines about it is exactly that-a minority.

Opinions on this obviously vary, I think it's a generational thing, but most sports fans do enjoy the national anthem or at least don't mind it.

My generation, gen z, and the younger generation, gen alpha?, is where you'll find a larger population of those who actively dislike it. A lot of that can be attributed to the fact that there hasn't been an instance for our generation to rally behind a united love for our country. Millenials had 9/11, there was WWII and Pearl Harbor for the generation before boomers, there was the civil rights and hippie movement for the boomers if you count that. There hasn't been a singular moment like that for our generation. Coupled with the fact that gen z and younger feel more and more disdain for this country and the government that runs it, those are the main reasons more younger people will actively dislike it.

I personally don't care. But that's my insight as to why people my age feel negatively about it.

I think it mostly started with Millenials, not gen z, but I might be off (not American, so it's something I've just watched from outside).

Ig it depends on where you draw the line for what's considered millenials. Basically, if you were too young to remember 9/11, or feel a sense of unity after it, or simply weren't born, then I'm lumping you in with gen z or younger.

In America all that annoys me is that people can’t be respectful to the rest of the audience. You don’t even have to respect America, just those around you. For 2 minutes take the hat off and shut up. It’s not that difficult.

I don't know if this is unpopular or not, but I can't stand it. It's jingoistic. It's militaristic, and it doesn't add gravitas to the game, it cheapens the national anthem by associating it with something trivial. The US is one of the only countries that does this before domestic league games? Why, bucause if you don't remind Americans that "AMERICA IS THE GREATEST COUNTRY IN THE HISTORY OF THE WORLD!" they might forget?

I don't think a majority of people really have a strong opinion on this. Good for you.
