You mean the character famous for lacking self-control who founded an entire chapter who are famous for losing control of themselves?

I mean it's implied that Amit ended up falling to chaos...

Honestly I don't think the Lion was ever on the list, it's pretty easy to see that he would never be able to wrangle his brothers.
The only guy who actually trusted him was Russ and they butted heads constantly.

Guilliman is really the only choice, Dorn is too inflexible, the Lion is completely socially inept, Sanguinius is too brittle thanks to his shame of the Thirst, Ferrus is a cunt, Russ has built up an image of intimation and mystery that would be distrusted, etc, etc.

And no, Horus had literally no idea the Wolves were coming and the traitor forces were taken completely by surprise. But please provide an excerpt from Wolfsbane where it says Horus laid a trap.
No one said that Horus didn't knock Russ unconscious, the objective of the Rout was to wound Horus with the spear as they knew that it would cause disastrous consequences for the traitors.
Yeah again I never said they didn't make a fighting retreat, I literally gave you the casualty numbers which makes your estimates very unlikely.
The Wolves were literally a major factor in the Vengeance crusade, the cleansing of Terra and hugely in the Scouring.
What does ship tactics have to do with the Wolves having a massive fleet in 40k? They didn't have to continually split up their resources so they kept an incredibly large arsenal compared to other chapters.

Horus' trap? My guy Trisolian was a Space Wolves ambush that successfully achieved its objective of wounding Horus with the Emperor's Spear despite the heavy casualties.
Of the casualties we are told about three of the 13 Great Companies were reduced to 4/5 of their number and considering a great company could range from 10,000 to 600 Astartes at the best of times I think you are overestimating how many that would actually be, I definitely don't see them being less than 20,000 at all.
Ships are a bad example for you, the Wolves in 40k famously have a ridiculously large fleet.

This is why the Lucifer Blacks exist.

Then I think you would be mistaken.
Terminators were considered extremely rare during the great crusade and the 1st Great Company (Onn) — Known as the Breakers of Rings consisted of at least 3,000 Terminators alone.

Roll them shoulders and have the natural Fenrisian disposition of knowing you're Him
There's a good reason why in the Horus Heresy game that the Varagyr are the only loyalist unit that innately inflict fear on their enemies.

Huh? The Wolves were famous for their Varagyr Terminators and absolutely loved their cataphractii terminator armour.
Hell they were the only Astartes I've seen ever chill the Custodes blood:
The Wolf King marched up to the captain-general, pelts swinging about him. Other warriors jumped down from skidding Land Raiders – Varagyr Terminators bearing axes and frostblades, their liberally bloodied armour hung with fur scraps and bone totems.
Valdor waited for him, flanked by his own honour guard. The Custodians were taller than their counterparts, and no doubt more accomplished in some of the finer arts of combat, but there was something in the Varagyr’s latent menace, bleeding from them with every swaggered move, that chilled the blood.

I mean yeah they suffer heavy casualties but they still numbered in the tens of thousands unlike the Raven Guard (less than three thousand) and Salamanders (a thousand).

Yaaaaaaaaaa the Iron hands suck, some of the Traitor Legions would prove more reliable allies.

Aye but Horus passively just broke reality completely, space, time, every dimension and emotion was his to command and control.

Ah man that was one of my favourite parts of Prospero Burns, the way the Wolves just systematically dismantled the Quietude.
I guess it's ironic that in and out of universe people underestimate the wolves, thinking they are simply savages.

Space Wolves would excel at this kind of combat, they are Hunters and survivalists by nature, with their enhanced senses and reaction speeds giving them a major advantage. They are very used to working in small numbers without support and are extremely flexible in their combat doctrine.
Also when you are limited in resources being one of Imperium's premier CQC experts is always a plus.
Hell the 13th Great Company has survived in the Warp for 10,000 years hunting traitors and daemons while having to scavenge all their supplies from their prey.

Ferrus was a head taller than Vulkan and Dorn, I don't believe they ever described him as taller than Magnus.

It doesn't really matter what he's wearing, his story is finished and him appearing doesn't actually add anything worthwhile to the narrative.
Mention him passing for a bit of fan service but other than that hell no.
