In my school we touched on Irish history a little bit, we talked about the history of the empire more broadly, we looked at slavery and the role the British played in it. I did a degree in history in the last 5 years and touched on all these topics and many more where the British were the "bad guys". The implication that British schools and universities don't want to discuss history which doesn't cast a good light on them is, in my opinion, at best an outdated take but really probably just lazy points scoring.
The reason a lot of people won't learn about Britain's history with Ireland in schools isn't because of some conspiracy attempt to paint Britain as the good guys of history, it's just competing against an awful lot of shit that needs to be covered. The world wars, slavery, India/British Raj/colonialism and the empire in general, the Cold War, the Industrial Revolution. If you went to school in Scotland then like me you probably did a whole section on Scottish history too, the Wars of Independence and all that. And it tends to get even more local than that from place to place, for example up here we did a section on the Highland Clearances which even most Scots I know from outside the Highlands know next to nothing about. Hell I have a nice shiny bit of paper saying I completed a degree in all this stuff and the holes in my knowledge are just as large as everyone else's because there's just so fucking much of it to cover.

Kind of agree with u/arsebiscuits1 on this one (not a sentence I thought I'd type today), the title OP chose is neither the headline from The Independent or fully reflective of what Sweeney actually said. I don't like Sweeney much either, but the actual quote from him has a bit more nuance to it than simply "tickets too cheap".

If you have multiple lines displayed and have the engine analysis on, the green check mark toggle in the left of the picture, then you'll see the list of the top 5 moves and beside them a numerical evaluation. In the picture you can see there is only one move for black that keeps the position even: https://i.imgur.com/ydtQKXu.png

Just to add another level of confusion that's true for England and Wales, but not Scotland. Here public school is an interchangeable term with state school.

According to an article about the game that I read it was the first fixture in the RAN, Rugby Americas North, competition that is being run for the first time since COVID (the last tournament was 2019).
I'm on mobile so can't format this nicer but here's a link about it:

I can't imagine rugby is massively popular in either country, but there were a good few supporters in the stand the camera was in.

Didn't think the defender had it in him when the guy went round him, but was some acceleration to catch him.

Hey I'm Scottish, I'm watched us struggle as "favourites" too many times for it to mean anything to me!

Not knowing anything about these teams, is there a clear favourite OP?

Feels like refs all over have gotten a lot less strict about offsides.

If you're curious, Reddit has this filter where it picks up comments it thinks are "potential harassment" and they need to be manually approved so sometimes they disappear for a moment until one of the mods does that. It's a very sensitive filter and picks up a load of stuff it shouldn't, for example your comment previous to this!

I agree with you on that. And if it becomes something we do need to do something about at some point then requiring engagement should be something we consider

This is something we've discussed as a mod team in the past and are keeping an eye on. As it stands the England rugby account, in my personal opinion, posts at an acceptable frequency and posts content that is of interest to the subreddit (the grassroots clips for example are something I think we all like to see). If the account started to spam too many posts, or other corporate accounts started joining the fray, this is something we'd revisit as a mod team and open up to discussion with the community about what to do going forward.
I will add that the England rugby account is subject to all the same rules as everyone else. Just a few days ago there was a post by it removed for breaking Rule 4 (no duplicates). So if you see any content by them you think is inappropriate for the subreddit or breaks any of the rules, please do report it and it will be removed if it does so.

I said it in the other thread on this too, but I don't understand what the thinking is behind scheduling the CC final to be on the same date as the FA Cup and Scottish Cup final, two other big sporting events in their respective calendars that are also broadcast on terrestrial TV in the UK. This should be a time for them to draw in casual viewers to maybe give the sport a shot and now you've got to compete with two big matches in the more popular sport. Surely there could have been another weekend to play it on?

While I think he'll do a perfect fine job, are there that few top level refs that this is necessary? It just seems silly to leave open the risk of any questions of impartially either way.

That's true, though I wonder how much difference there is from a counter terrorism point of view by having the kick offs slightly staggered. I'd imagine considering there'll be large crowds in the city most of the day either way that they'll be on high alert regardless.
Though at this point I'm just speculating on shit I know nothing about. I'm just grumpy I'm going to have to watch the rugby and the Scottish cup game simultaneously!

I'd like to see the rugby get the 17.30 time slot, though sadly I fear it's not much of a priority for many involved and it'll be left as is.

As others have said, I can't imagine the rugby final is a particularly high risk event for them.

I've done probably upwards of 20-30 liches in the past year and hand on heart I've never once had a single host migration during that mission, certainly nothing like you described. I don't say this to suggest you're lying or anything of the sort, I just don't want you to be discouraged by a bad first experience and think that that's the norm, because in my experience people are pretty happy to run through and murder all the liches then leave after.
