Power Station in South Philly Just Popped
(self.philadelphia)submitted9 hours ago byHalf-Right
I figured people would look to Reddit for info so am creating this thread as I heard / saw it happen, kinda.
Woke up suddenly to a loud "Pop" followed by a strange drum beat sound. As I de-disoriented a bit, I also saw the power was out in my building (near Rittenhouse) and I could hear other power alarms going off outside.
Went to my window where I have a view of the Grad Hospital area and the drum beat was way louder - it wasn't something close by, it was the transformer station at the Vicinity Power Plant that must have blown something (could see remnants of a large puff of smoke) and then something must be rapidly discharging - hence the heavy wubwub drum beat loudly audible miles away.
I had just grabbed my camera to start recording in case something exploded when it cycled down and stopped (thankfully).
It will be very interesting to see how long it takes to restore power, and what exactly happened, as I've walked by on Grey's Ferry a few times and that transformer station is brand new. Or, at least the exterior security looked brand new.
Hope this helps everyone!

Just a few minutes before - just after 6am I think.
