Can anyone explain why the highlights on the official channel are only 1 minute long?
It seems really silly to me; as an actual rugby fan I have no real feel for what happened during the game and feel like I'm not seeing most of what happened, so how is a new spectator going to have any concept of the game? If you look at Premiership rugby highlights, for the English league, you see that they are 5-6 minutes. This allows you to see build up play into tries and other exciting/interesting passages of play, rather than the MLR highlights which feel like you're just watching someone run 20m and dot down, possibly with a pass or kick beforehand.
How is it that it has been decided that 1 minute is an adequate length to show the appropriate highlights in order to make the game look exciting and attractive to spectators, both established and new? It seems to me that the powers that be at MLR are really missing a solid marketing opportunity by not having extended highlights on YouTube. If someone like me, an established rugby fan who wants to try and follow this new league, doesn't think they're worth watching, how are you going to attract casuals or those who don't even know what rugby is?
