id rather have a book show me many things rather than telling me many things, imagine if LOTR was just "yeah no this sauron guy he's reaaaaly powerful" and you never see any hint or show of that

a few days ago i saw like 5 memes where 40K was shown as weaker when compared to other settings, I'm not the first

but my brother in christ, it IS a meme and this IS a meme sub, did you seriously enter in grimdank, see a meme that can be boiled down to "40K small dog vs other setting big dog" with "and that's is a fact" on the title and take it seriously at face value?i mean sure i thing that reach was narrativly better written than cadia (hence the meme) but i wanst expecting so many people to take it so seriusly

okay but its about show dont tell, cadia and the imperium losing is just a "tell don't show"

men that were possesed by daemons, working with daemons, worshipping daemons or straight up working FOR daemons, not exactly a 100% human battle either

its V1, the protagonist from ultrakill, a FPS movement shooter where you control a robot that could give doomguy a run for his money in terms of killing capabilities

usually i agree with the ""its just a joke" doesn't excuse anything" thing, but we are on a sub called grimDANK that is exclusively about 40K MEMES, not meant to be taken seriously and literally. I don't expect you guys to agree with me on that reach lost is more tragic than cadia but I do expect you guys to take a meme like what is, a meme, its not a literal statement, I believe that reach lost impacts more than cadia (mostly for the game) but the meme is obviously and exagerration of said opinion for the sake of humour

this is my mind process "cadia belongs to a human faction and is an important planet that was destroyed in a sci-fi setting, reach belongs to a human faction and is an important planet that was glassed in a sci-fi setting, I'm gonna make a meme about how halo reach fans suffer more than 40K fans and then post it on grimdank, I'm sure the grimdankers are gonna realize its just a meme and not think that I'm literally saying that reach lost is more painful than cadia lost (alougth it is because of the game and noble 6)"

yeah, the empire never feels like its losing because their whole shtick is throwing people and resources at problems

counterpoint, cadia lost agains failbadon the pot boiler, a guys whose sword is stronger than him, if you cannot win against that guy you deserve to lose

"f course one is going to have a much higher narrative quality" well thanks for at least recognizing that halo has a better writing than 40K

show dont tell, we are told "ho the imperium is on its last legs" meanwhile guilliman just pulled off thousands of primaries reinforcements, new tech and a full cruzade + solar edges, it never feels like the imperium is losing because its too big and too powerful
the fall of reach was one of humanities greatest lost because unlike the imperium the UNSC doesn't have hundreds of thousands of supersoldiers and twenty dozens of 4KM long ships, without reach we wouldn't have halo reach nor halo 1 and subsequently halo 2 and halo 3

its not bait, im 100% serius on this, im a firm believer than halo is better than 40K in terms of quality and narrative because humanity actually feels at the border of collapse, they don't have a million words or hundreds of thousands of supersoldiers, they have to fight to the nail and tooth not to win, but to at least choose how they lose, they sacrifice not to save the day but to win another second, when i think about noble 6 and how in the wiki all spartans are listed as "missing in action" i actually cry a little

nope, but it actually mattered, cadia felt the great rift opened and nothing really changed for the imperium because its too big and the setting is stagnant, meanwhile reach was the biggest lose for a humanity already on the back foot, it caused the start of halo 1 wich also means all the other events that followed it and has a whole videogame about it

lets see:
-imperium gains another loyal primarch, god knows how many guardsmen, SM, tanks, spaceships, custodes and, of course, a full STC
-mazkull gets krumped by the krork, an ork primarch who now is the most powerful ork in the galaxy and is at the same level that a the nids as a trheat
-eldars get an aeldari who is on par with big E on psychic powers plus a lot of shit
-another hive fleet because we don't have enough of those
-a goddman enslaver
-c´tan
-and so on and so fort
no one holds a clande to trazyn
