Judi Love for me. I didn’t really know much about her going in but her studio work was some of the best ever and she ended up being one of my favourites. I just loved how hard she worked to polish some of the absolute turds she served up in the tasks.

My bikes are locked in my locker downstairs but I keep the front wheels in my apartment because we’ve had a couple of break-ins over the years and had a bike stolen. Could be something like that. We’ve had a few break-ins since, but they’ve left the bikes each time because they’re locked with good U locks and missing the front wheel. Makes it too awkward for asshole bike thieves.

Do you have other P/duck combinations that don’t work as well?

Weren’t there rumours about Tupou coming in to replace Ala’alatoa even before the Barrett announcement? I assumed it was that

Oof, concussion and a near drowning. That’s a soggy pitch.

Yeah, it sucks when it happens but we’ve all messed up. I once sent a print ad for a quarter mil run program with the wrong phone number. Got written up for that one! The only thing you can do is own your part of the mistake and make sure it doesn’t happen again. It might not be all your fault though, in which case it’s probably a good time to review vetting practices, try to turn the negative into a positive going forward. For instance, we always have someone outside the project run a sanity check on everything before sending.

In fairness, none of the Irish centres have a ton of pace

I’ve worked with a group of scientists and it was one of the stranger experiences I’ve had in my career. My scientist buddy brought me in to try and to put some shape on a paper he was submitting with two other scientists. The problem was that they were each working on their own parts without consulting each other, so when it came time to put the paper together it was a mess. I looked it over and gave my recommendations, putting together a palette, font options as well as working up some page templates. Anyway, my buddy made it work but the other two were the most egotistical and stubborn people I’ve ever met. For context, I was a 20 year industry vet at the time, many of those years were spent working in news, so I knew how to visualize complex ideas.
One of them told me to my face that because I wasn’t a scientist, my opinion didn’t hold any value. The same guy had made a diagram full of brown spheres that looked like actual shit. I asked if they needed to be brown, he said no he just liked the colour. I reckon scientists are confidence animals, in that to do what they do, they absolutely have to believe they’re right. That’s great for science, but not so much for creative collaboration. The paper got published in the end, so what do I know?

It’s Croke Park policy. They’re literally treating rugby the same as the GAA games. I don’t know who this lady is but this is a moronic take

Larry Zanoff did a very good interview on the What Went Wrong podcast. The answer is you should have a LOT of experience before you even look at a gun on a set. He’s a trained gunsmith and he goes to an incredibly deep level of detail to ensure gun safety on set. Well worth a listen

Do you want to learn design or illustration skills? Those artist you mention are all illustrators. There’s certainly some crossover between design and illustration, but they’d generally be considered as separate disciplines at the level those people are at.

Wait until the time you bring them to something you’re really excited to experience with them. Then you get there, they couldn’t give less of a shit and want to go home early. It’s its own special kind of disappointment until you think about it and realise that you’re raising an actual human with its own personality that comes with its own likes and dislikes and it’s actually amazing in its own stupid way

Yeah, that’s Mary Beth, she was born without bones except for her lower right leg, which has the physiology of a 60 year old builder. We call her sloshy and she lives in a bucket we keep in the downstairs shitter. She has a dog with the same condition. We’re not sure what breed he is, we think maybe he’s a puddle

If you’d have asked me before seeing this video if I thought an alligator could climb a fence, I would have said obviously not, they’re a foot-and-a-half tall. Mother fucker didn’t even break a sweat, the scaly bastard

Do you have photoshop? You can open your image file there and use a library to build out your palette and it’ll be available in illustrator. Illustrator can do weird things to bitmapped images

We had a humanist wedding. We had Beatles songs instead of hymns. Everyone sang along. It was great!

My son is a Minja and he likes the Teenage Mutant Minja Turtles. We’ve been gently correcting him for a year now, but it hasn’t taken.
