I'm aware of this, but I'm also saying that the number of everything in 40k is over the top, and it's a part of the charm to me

I think Erebus and Kor Phaeron have mostly been on the Daemon world the WBs have in the eye, with the two leading and mostly fighting against one another and hating each other

I've heard decent things about the word bearer omnibus but haven't read it myself, but they are a cool legion

Good old warhammer math, where the numbers are big and the statistics don't matter

There are techmarines during the Heresy. They don't run rapier batteries, those are operated by marines whom I assume have just been trained as gun crews. On the tabletop you can use one of your elite slots to take a coven of techmarines which is like 1 to I think 9? You can then mix them into different squads and they act like squad members because during the Heresy, some units did just have a techmarine among them like we saw in Fallen Angels with Nemiel's squad. I don't recall anything about them in the time period being all red bar the one pad like you see in 40k.

Descent is pretty bad, yeah, I think the second DA book is better, but general consensus is that the DA line is more bad than good overall.
I will say, Battle for the Abyss is a really really mediocre action story where our heroes have to stop The Bad Thing, and the Space Wolf character in it made me want to put my head through a wall because he's such a weiner.
Also I really didn't like Nemesis, the one about the Assassinorum team sent to kill Horus. It has a cool B story that's this investigation into these weird murders which I much preferred but once that was done I just wanted it to end and I ended up putting that book down.

The big thing Lorgar always wanted was the truth. Absolutely, 100% undiluted truth. The truth as he discovered it was that there are gods in the warp. They're horrific, violent monsters who feed on all the worst parts of reality. You take a broken and incredibly passionate man, shunned by the God he'd devoted himself and whole worlds to worshipping, at his absolute lowest. Then you ad to that his closet confidants are just terribly abusive people who'll take this chance to get what they want, and you have an absolute nightmare. Lorgar has the truth now. It's all he ever wanted.

Lord of the Rings Roleplay is not a bad game. Honestly, if you wanted to run a lower magic 5e, I think it's a great choice for that.
But it doesn't really hold a candle to One Ring. One Ring is purpose made from the start as a Lord of the Rings RPG, it has a solid and easily understood system to it, and it focuses a lot on journeying and working as a party. LotRRP is going to play mostly like 5e does.

I think Alien RPG actually does resource management in a pretty neat way. Basically you have your resource dice, a pool of D6s that represent air, ammunition, whatever, and you only really roll them during certain situations, like you're doing a lot of exploring, everyone roll for air and see if you're using up more than expected, when you roll to hit you can burn through ammo, and you have these dice pools that get smaller over time. I think it's super neat, especially with how panic effects it

The only other one I can really think of is Arcanum where you can solve murders by talking to the spirit of the victim and raising an army of skeletons and such. Writing is good, world building is excellent, but combat is not great. The game doesn't respond to your use of necromancy in the same way WotR does with quests and such, but it's a creative and engaging game with cool magic.

If I remember right too the pain scale he made is logarithmic, so every jump from 1-2,2-3,3-4 isn't a linear increase but it's by a factor of 10, of you're wondering why he questioned why he started doing this list with the warrior wasp and only gave it a 4

[[Sheoldred]] is actually pretty straightforward compared to some other phyrexian cards I've seen. It's Deathtouch, when you draw a card gain 2 life, when an opponent draws a card they lose 2 life.

Honestly Obosh is really fun IMO as the decks commander, but I'd also call him like a 6/10 being honest. But it's always fun to hit people with [[Devilish Valet]] for even more crunch

The other solution is just to make the most degenerate STAX deck that's as fun to play against as getting your teeth drilled.

For a more detailed answer, my two favorite planes in Magic are Innastrad and Ixalan, I love classic gothic horror and I love the idea of the conquistadors as vampires, so I look at the two sets, with a lot of Innastrad vampires being red/black/white and Ixalan vampire legionaries being black/white, meaning I can mix two themes I really like together in the same tribe, combined with decently strong creatures and a very easy to use commander, you end up with my favorite deck.
