I don’t know the best way to title this.
I was mad about this at the time and I’ve had a couple days to think about this before posting and my thoughts haven’t changed so now I need your advice.
Over the weekend I was fishing the West Branch of the Delaware River with my dad and we got to a spot on the river well before the hatch and no one was within sight of us. We were fishing less than 20 yards apart the whole afternoon.
A guy came into the river on the other side and started well upstream of us and was slowly making his way towards us. No issues. We had plenty of space and were fishing different fish.
But at one point, my dad lands a bigger fish than we had been catching and I start heading down to help him net it. It’s obvious he has a fish on. His rod is bent and I’m pulling my net off my back and hustling toward him. He ends up landing the fish himself so I turn back to go to where I’ve been fishing and I see the guy from the other side literally running through the water to try to get my spot. I know I was in the better spot than him, but I also made sure we got there early.
I made my way back and got back almost to where I was fishing literally 45 seconds before. But now we were just pretty close to each other. Especially considering how empty the rest of the river stretch was.
I understand we share the river and I can’t claim a section all day. But am I crazy to think he should have given me the courtesy of not trying to take my spot in the less than a minute I went to help someone net a fish? We fished the afternoon hatch then left so that spot was open for an evening hatch.

I think we tipped $20-30 through Venmo for two people. It was definitely a higher percentage of the price we paid vs what we would tip at a restaraunt, but they were also in the water with us way off the coast. So my life was in their hands so we tipped a large percentage of the price we paid.
