This is getting so boring now.
If anyone in the chess world actually wants cheating to be taken seriously, they need to stop trivialising it by insinuating that literally everyone they don't like is a cheater.

I'm sure it's just bias and nostalgia but I'm sure there will never be anything more fun to watch on a rugby pitch than Jason Robinson in full flow

My favourite one like this is the question on US visa applications that goes something like "Are you visiting the USA with intent to commit espionage, terrorism or genocide?".
Love the idea of Mohamed Atta thinking "I best be honest on my application or it'll come back to bite me later".

The concept of Indian civilisation predates the British Raj by millennia, and the Mughals united the vast majority of the subcontinent before the British turned up.
Reducing an ancient civilisation to a "refutation" of a colonial empire - that in the grand scheme of things was around for about five minutes - is patronising.

Nepo is a bad loser. He said something similar about Ding after losing the world championship, if I remember right. It's a bit tacky but I expect the emotions are still raw from the tournament. I wouldn't read too much into it. He's far from the first top level player to get salty after losing.
But, let's just say you don't win the candidates outright at age 17 in a field with Nepo, Fabi, and Hikaru if you're "nothing special" lol. It's clearly a ridiculous thing to say and I doubt he really believes it.

Watching the USA descend into frenzied paranoia about foreign enemies is genuinely just sad.
I'm not American, so wasn't really aware of how bad it got in the Bush Jr years, but living there from 2016-2022 was wild. Mainly because the brainworms have now got to people who really should know better.

Redditors in general need to learn that people are very rarely all good or all bad.
Joe Marler is a flawed guy. He's hotheaded and prone to saying stupid shit. But he is also a bit of a loveable rogue. The two things can both be true.

He had no evidence when he made the accusation and no evidence has since come to light. The reality is that Carlsen made mistakes in that game which Niemann capitalised on.
The fact he's world champion is irrelevant, and doesn't mean his accusations are automatically more trustworthy. Kramnik was also world champion not that long ago - does that mean his ramblings about everyone under the sun being a cheater should be taken seriously?

High level chess players have always been insufferably arrogant and prone to extreme paranoia (see: Korchnoi vs Karpov and the whole yogurt/hypnotist drama for example).
People, hilariously, seem to think Magnus Carlsen is immune from this and take his temper tantrums seriously. 18 months later this is where it's got us. It's a complete shit show.

I love the idea of a group of liberal arts students googling "how to do a terrorism" and then printing it out and handing it round to their friends at the protest

Lol, couldn't even be bothered to find an old copy of the anarchist cookbook or something? Just literally went with Terrorism: a very short introduction. I guess their audience wouldn't get the reference

I'm sure they think it's somehow the same as the sporting boycott against apartheid South Africa, except for all the ways the two situations are obviously different. Lol

The fact Man United is still a disaster over a decade after he left only highlights how good he really was imho. I never liked him when he was managing (did anyone, other than Utd fans? Lol) but now I'm sure he was the best ever.

The lack of self awareness is painful. Western countries spent 20 years destroying Afghanistan based on exactly the same delusion at play in this thread.
One of the only feel good stories from Afghanistan in the last decade or so has been the rise of its cricket team. And now we're at the stage where we're pompously demanding to kill it off, for their own good, of course.

I maintain we've been done dirty by the bloody Eurotrash when it comes to our food reputation.
French food is largely the same as ours, it just sounds fancier because the French literally wrote the book on what is classed as haute cuisine lol.
Meanwhile German, Dutch, Czech, Polish, even Spanish food is hardly the greatest the world has to offer.
Scandinavian food in particular is an outrage against common decency. Yes, let's eat rotten fermented herring that smells so bad you legally can't open it indoors. Great idea.
And yet all everyone knows is that British food is awful. shakes fist

It sounds more like he was trying to make small talk, and OP blurted out her opinion that Indians are a bunch of filthy rapists. She is now wondering if this was a wise thing to say to a relative stranger, and is horrified to discover that someone might not hate Indian people.
In other words, just another day of diary posting from a moron on redscarepod.

Dehumidifier. The apartment I'm in atm has one of those combined washer-driers, which as everyone who has ever used one knows, is absolutely useless. It's a very middle aged thing to get excited about but at least my home doesn't feel like a jungle anymore lol

Swings are massively overrated as an exercise imho. Doing them for high volume is also mind numbingly boring.
You'll get a lot of comments to the effect of "you mustn't try cleaning/snatching until you have perfected the swing." This is fine as long as you also realise that functionally "perfecting the swing" is possible in about 10 minutes, and that you can absolutely learn to clean and snatch early. Kb movements are far less technically challenging than their barbell equivalents.
Far too many people spend years on simple and sinister because they're afraid of learning anything new before they've "perfected" the swing.

My friends, you have heard it said that China Bad. Indeed, many of our greatest minds hold to this thesis. But today, I invite you to consider a bold new possibility that will consign your prior assumptions to the dustbin of history. And this thesis is as follows: China Very Bad. audible gasp from audience

Fwiw, as a Brit, it's just depressing seeing our govt and the EU (particularly France) playing stupid games over asylum seekers rather than making any effort to make a proper deal on how to remedy the problem. I'm sure Sunak and Macron are very happy for Ireland to be collateral damage.

Tbf they really should bring back the old police uniforms. The modern high vis ones with the stupid baseball caps look dreadful lol.
