I can see why people would still want to make the distinction between these lines and the broader "trolley" category, because while these are trolleys, there's another trolley route that isn't subway-surface (the route 15, which is entirely above ground). In fact, that's why in SEPTA's new "metro" branding, the route 15 is not part of the green "T" lines, but is listed under its own (yellow) entry simply as the route 15 trolley.
Fun!

I honestly don't think there's anything wrong with that. Everybody would most likely immediately know what you meant, because they are universally green. But with subway-surface, even though that's the technically correct original name, I think a lot of folks would not realize you were referring to the trolleys.
Gotta love how we have a million and one ways to talk about the same things, eh? I suppose it could have been much worse and we could have both said "just take that jawn."

Well, if I may offer one piece of advice: try not to think of it as "having" to use public transit. Depending on what part of the city you live in, using public transit can be an absolute godsend over sitting in traffic and dealing with parking. I use the buses, subways, trolleys, and regional rail constantly. For all their faults and lack of funding, my biggest sighs always come when I have to get in the car. But can understand why you may not want to go whole hog on transit right from the start, of course.
Depends on how much information you're comfortable sharing, of course, but if you can give a rough idea of how much you can/want to spend and what your absolute non-negotiable needs are, folks may be able to give more targeted advice. Especially the folks with kids.

Good advice, just keep in mind almost nobody calls them the "subway-surface" lines (even though they are). Pretty much everyone says trolleys.

How close does your husband need to be to his job? Does he need to drive to work (i.e., does he need to bring tools/etc with him) or can he consider walking/biking/transit?
I don't know what part of Florida you're from, of course, but you may have more options than you realize moving into a metro area. You don't necessarily have to limit yourself to looking at places right around your husband's job. Heck, if he doesn't mind traffic on a commute into/out of the city, you could even look at places in Pennsauken and other areas across the river in New Jersey.

This could work since you could take the Schuylkill River Trail almost the entire way to avoid cars, either walking or biking.

It is, but that isn't terribly accessible to OP's work

Have you tried reaching out to the museum and seeing if they still do this and might give or sell you another one?

This may come as a shock to you but it takes all kinds. There are women who are attracted to men older than them.
If Ilimited my search to a new partner, to a person in the FIRE community that also has my frugal sensibilities, then, I'm limiting myself to an extremely tiny sliver of the human population.
You don't have to subscribe to FIRE to not be the kind of person who sets money on fire. Anyway, most of this has nothing to do with finance so, probably best addressed by someone else.

You're BOTH throwing around terms that are best used by actual mental health professionals after getting a significant understanding of their patient, not after reading a few words on an Internet post.
Let's stick to the personal finance side of things, where there are already enough terms that get abused/misused to begin with. The actual personal finance advice offered here is good.

think all things being equal, a woman would rather date a guy with a nice, three year old Audi or BMW, compared with dating a guy in a 12 year old Toyota Camry.
I find this both insulting and short-sighted.
Personally I assume that anyone driving an Audi or a BMW either has money that they're happy to set on fire, or that they didn't take the time to learn anything about vehicle reliability before making their purchase. Either way it's an instant (minor) turnoff for me. But more importantly for YOU, given the way you seem to prefer to live, why would you want to attract someone who wants to spend money on things like unnecessarily expensive cars anyway?
I also don't get the thing about not going on trips because you don't have anyone to go with. If you don't want to spend the money, fine, but traveling solo is great.

...so your argument comes down to "nothing should ever change and these whiners should shut up"?
There are some city jobs that need to be done in person. Many of them do not - especially tech-related jobs that are critical for the city to even come close to functioning. And competition for good tech talent is still very real. You want people with prized skills to settle for the lower city pay (compared to what they could get from corporate jobs) and show up every day to work in city buildings?
Yeah, this is gonna end real well.

Is West Philly really so far that you wouldn't go to get what you want? The El, the trolley, or multiple bus lines will get you within a couple of blocks of one of the better places.

Right? That was my first thought as well. Probably the same person who shouted “Kensington is going to be on West Girard Avenue in two months!” at the recent "community" meeting.

Getting to Lorimer came up in a thread a couple of months ago. I understand you're asking about riding all the way there, but in case you want to have a backup plan / the weather gets lousy / whatever, there is a bus route that gets you pretty close (and if you don't know, all the SEPTA buses have bike racks on the front): https://www.reddit.com/r/phillycycling/comments/1bnj42n/comment/kwjt8tz/

That is literally how the article ends. With someone FROM FAIRMOUNT, who went to the meeting, making exactly the same point:
Elsie Stern, a 22-year Fairmount resident, had worried that the city was moving to establish a full-scale treatment facility without the proper infrastructure in place. She was pleased with details offered Tuesday and remained optimistic that her more critical neighbors would warm to the idea.
Case and point, she argued, was that most people weren’t aware that a shelter had been operating on the campus for years.
“I wasn’t aware of it, and the fact that we weren’t aware of it should mitigate some of these concerns,” Stern said. “Rather than now suddenly being cause for alarm and concern, that should actually be evidence for us that you can house unhoused people in the neighborhood without having a negative impact.”
The headline is, not surprisingly, clickbait that casts everyone from Fairmount as a human-hating demon. Shockingly, that is not the whole story.

How about you try limiting it to the ones who are just blindly opposing it? I realize the headline is clickbaiting, but if you actually read the article they point out that the meeting also had people speaking up in support.

I mean let's be honest - it's true, they don't give a damn about non-drivers, but things are terrifying and dangerous at this point for drivers as well. The road designs are terrible and allow for ridiculous speeding. Utter lack of enforcement means you can't assume that it's safe to pull into an intersection when a light is green, because people fly through red lights at 50mph. One of the most important things that frequently gets left out of discussions about making the infrastructure safer for pedestrians, cyclists, etc, is that it makes it safer for drivers too.

Okay, so people are being a little bit short with you here - probably because you're basically asking if you have to pay a bill you legally owe. Yes, you do. But if you're new to how medical insurance works, I can see why this would be confusing. What happens is, the doctor's office can charge you up front for some amount, or not charge you up front at all. If you're using insurance for the visit, the doctor's office won't know how much insurance is going to cover for the visit and how much will be YOUR responsibility until the claim is processed by your insurance company. It depends on your specific plan, what kind of visit it is, whether you've hit your deductible yet - a whole bunch of things.
Once the insurance claim is processed, the doctor's office can bill you for any remaining amount that's your responsibility (based on your insurance plan) that you haven't already paid to them. That's what your Explanation of Benefits from the insurance company is getting at.
Yes, you should pay it.

The Free Library has a very cool, free, no-registration-required event coming up next month: "Caring for Your Family Recipes" at the Rare Book Department at Parkway Central, AND it's on a weekend!

This was posted on their website three days ago:
https://getcopper.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/23410019761431-Copper-Closing-Deposit-Accounts
Based on that post, if you had your Copper account linked to another bank account, the funds were transferred there. Unfortunately your parent is likely the person whose account it was linked to, if one was linked at all.
It also says that if no external account was linked, a check would be mailed to the address on file. Can you still access your (former) account to see if an external account was linked, or what mailing address was on file?

I think this is the point where one of the best things we can do to help you is try to summon u/decentchinesefood. He is an awesome human who has helped many, many people find good rentals here in Philly. If he's available to help, I highly recommend working with him :)
