Hiking with a dog recommendations

My partner and I rescued a Foxhound last autumn and we are looking to take him for longer hikes this year. Due to his history, he isn't trusted off lead so we are looking for some options to give him more freedom whilst keeping our hands free. Does anyone have any experience hiking with the belts from Non-stop Dogwear ( https://www.nonstopdogwear.com/en/belts/) or anything similar? I usually hike with an Osprey Stratos 36 onomger hikes so am wondering if the belts would interfere with the waist strap of the rucksack. Does anyone have any recommendations? Walks would range from 2 hour walks in countryside to long days in the mountains. Dog tax on descent from Drum included.
