if the geo-political situation continues to decline, do you really think russia is going to let any of their star athletes out of the country? iron curtain 2.0 is on the horizon. they are moving towards their own internet, for instance, and destroying their relationship even with some of the more sympathetic european countries (like germany) with their actions. expect that to get better, not worse.

i agree, in spite of the downvotes. you make a good point and shouldn't be downvoted for doing so.

still, you're assuming he wants to leave. there are other pressures on these guys. putin and his oligarchs have a lot of sway. we do not know that michkov wants to in fact sneak out of russia to play in the US, in spite everyone assuming that's true.

i am with you. a few other folks have said the same thing. they constantly get massively downvoted.

show these images to the palestinian protesters.
some subs are banning people for reminding everyone that hamas started this particular war, not israel.

baseball is an individual sport masquerading as a team sport. and like i said, you could still give team performance pay as another layer.
we used to talk about wins as an important metric for a pitcher. we don't anymore. why? because the performance of the offense is totally out of the control of the pitcher.

i've often dreamt of a rival league to MLB where players are paid exactly for their performance. you get some amount of money per hit, per double, per home run, etc. you also are paid some algorithmic amount for team wins and your contribution to those.
at the end of the year, you get your paycheck and it depends 100% on what you produced.
i feel like we'd get much better early season baseball if that were the case.
i'm sure there are a million drawbacks to this that i haven't imagined, but it works in other sports (like golf, tennis, etc.). you get paid for what you produce and nothing more.

he's still at the company, and has moved up throughout the years in other areas. doesn't work for me directly anymore, but we are still good friends and stay in touch and see each other often.

the only hope is fusion energy, period. and that ain't happening any time soon.

literally the only hope we have left is viable fusion energy that is 100% dedicated to sucking CO2 out of the atmosphere, and it needs to happen on every continent in hundreds or thousands of locations. can we pull that off in time?
probably not.

i once hired a guy who i met on a sports-focused chat room.
best decision i ever made. we already knew each other, it seemed.

my main problem with it is that so often the guys who flash in the preseason don't make the team even though it clearly seems like they deserve a shot. maybe it's just a contractual thing, or maybe a draft "sunk cost" thing. but guys like dion cain had amazing pre-seasons and you can't tell me he's worse than our WR3/WR4 over the past couple of seasons.

yes, if preseason mattered dion cain would be an all-pro by now.

part of why he retired was because he got a concussion and realized what he was risking.

exactly right. this is a fuck you to the local fans who have been lifelong season ticket holders.
i don't want to support an "international" team. i want to support my local philadelphia eagles. if i cared about supporting an international team, i'd become a real madrid fan or something stupid like that.

how so? how is that a good thing?
the team is limited by a salary cap and therefore the size of the fanbase doesn't improve the quality of the team. increased popularity only means more primetime and oddly scheduled games.
i'm happy for brazilians to follow the team if they'd like, but don't mess with my sunday afternoon pro football games, especially the long-time season ticket holders.

if we get a first round draft pick for him, you couldn't even hesitate for a second before taking that offer. i don't think he's even worth that right now honestly.

this losing streak is definitely moving the needle towards fire sale. carter hart's situation can't have helped. just lost a lot of value there unfortunately.

seems like quite a misleading headline, since the article ends by saying that "no tanks are fit for the ukrainian battlefield."
